Night sweats, reflux and hemoptysis

Trying to put two and two and two together here...

Josh is being treated for GERD with prevacid 30 mg. twice a day. Our insurance company just stopped covering prevacid, so he went on omeprozole which didn't work at all.

His doctor got an approval to cover the prevacid, but in the meantime his reflux was awful!

The weekend after he started back on the prevacid was the weekend he had the hemoptysis. Hmmm- correlation?

Afterwards in the hospital they also started him on zantac 15 mg once a day which helped some.

Additionally he has been getting soaking night sweats. I'm not sure about night sweats with acid meds. Andrew has never had a problem with prevacid. But I just thought I would mention prednisone..Andrew does okay on his maintenance dose, but anytime he is on a burst, he has terrible nightsweats. Is Josh on prednisone right now?

No question that nocturnal aspiration of gastric juice can irritate the lungs to hell and beyond.

Irritated and inflamed lungs can lend themselves to hemoptysis and night sweats.

As soon as I increased my PPI my night sweats went right away.

Go to a gastro if yo'ure serious about this an get a pH probe.

NO pulmonologists for gastric problems. Go to the experts. Gastro for gastro problems. No PCP's or HP's for gastro problems. They're experts in nothing.

Let me know if I can help further. I feel so grateful for solving my night sweat issues.

Thanks Amy! The boys have a great GI doc who works very closely with their Pulm.

They had an Impedance Probe done two years ago (<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.articles.complexchild.com/00002.pdf)">http://www.articles.complexchild.com/00002.pdf)</a> which is the reason they are already on Prevacid. Their CF doc guessing the reflux has gotten worse has recommended another one soon.

I really had no idea the reflux could contribute to the sweats too.

Also, Tonya no he's not taking any prednisone but thanks for the thought.
