No Filming of PICC Line Placement

So I wanted to film my PICC line placement for my blog and just before I was ready to go into IR I was told "no go". Up until that point everyone was on board and my doctor actually wrote an order allowing me to film the procedure. I told them that I only wanted my arm in the shot and that no faces would be seen. One woman from IR had a problem with it and said she could lose her job if she allowed it.

Anybody have any experience on this or a legal background in which they could tell me the legalities of this whole episode?

Thanks

There is no 'legal' requirement that she stop you.

However, it may be very likely she was honest about her job.

Most hospitals & quite a few doctors are VERY touchy about filming procedures. In the chance something goes wrong, a video is 100% proof and is impossible to challenge.

So while there isn't a crime, per se, I would not be surprised if there is hospital policy that she could use to defend her decision. Ultimately, you don't have much leverage since you were asking to do something that is outside the norm.

I was honestly surprised they let you film the IV sticks, especially given the trouble they had!

I had to laugh about this, Ronnie. When we took our daughter for her first haircut the salon told us it was against their policy to allow us to film them. I think Tom is right. The hospital would have no defense if something went wrong. Anyway, picc line/haircut, it's all the same....right?<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I hope your meds have you feeling better very soon!
