nursing a big/older baby

Amelia is growing fast, she is probably over 14 lbs now and is starting to try to sit up. Question for those of you who have breastfed a big/older baby. We were out having lunch in a tiny cafe yesterday and Amelia started crying to be fed. Everyone turned around to look and Amelia was pulling at my nursing top and wouldn't latch quickly. She is so big that she sits on my lap to nurse - good in some ways but she wiggles more and I can't hold her as tightly as when she was smaller. I see that my front-access nursing tops won't work much longer since she is figuring out how to grab on and open them, exposing me. Any tips on how to be discreet with an older baby? I'm usually not uncomfortable to feed her in public but I guess that is because up til now I could keep myself covered easier. My boobies are big now and men look. I am losing weight so will need to buy smaller tops anyway, so looking for suggestions on what style to get too.

P.S. I know weight loss and BF don't usually go well together but I am way above my normal weight-actually overweight. It takes very little exercise and just avoiding overeating for me to lose weight since my metabolism is fast and I'm a fattie. I'm PS.

go to nordstrom.com, ebay or google the company itself-hooter hiders/bebe au lait nursing covers. they are the best. they go over you like an apron and are very very large-the size of an apron. they are supposed to be good for even a toddler. you can tuck each side under your thighs so lo can't pull it. it has this great top so that you can see lo and make sure everything is latching right, but you don't have to keep adjusting or holding it open to see everything which i find really frustrating while bf. it really is a hands free nursing cover. and the styles are really cute.

Well Marlee is not a big baby at only 20 pounds at one year, but this is what I did for a long long time: I would layer shirts and then always have with me a large zippered sweatshirt. I would then put on the zippered sweatshirt when I would NIP and unzip it enough to get the boobs out, but the bottom part stayed down around my tummy. The excess part that was unzipped was baggy enough to sort of pull up around her and cover any extra skin - as did my layered shirts. This technique worked well for a long time.

Buy a nursing tank top like glamourmom (LOVE them!) and you can layer it under a regular shirt. You just pull up your shirt and then unhook the bra part of the tank top and everything stays covered. I'm not a fan of nursing covers but my SIL won't nurse in public without her hooter hider (she also uses a glamourmom tank under her shirts.) Good luck finding something that works.
