My older brother has CF and he cant afford to go on Medicid and quit his job to gt his Medications. BCMH has dropped all adult CF patients and they wont take him back either. Both say they are trying to help but in his own words " they are d*ick*ing him around and the state of ohio is going to kill me" Im trying to find anyone who could tell me somewhere else he can go to try to get help. since he has a job and a pre existing condition we havent found any help. He is in Akron Childresn Hospitial for the 2nd time since BCMH has refused to help and the bills are enormous. Hes got IVs and would normally get send home with them, but cant afford it now so he wont get any medication. He cant even afford the pills and pulmizines he needs. can someone please help??

Aloha,

I'm so sorry to hear about your brother, and unfortunatly there are so many others who are in his same situation. I was disabled 6 years ago, and after draining out all savings, etc., I was in a position such as his. I couldn't afford my medications, but my state would not help me, saying my disability insurance was too much. Over 2 years ago when I came back from the Mayo Clinic I had 7 medications which needed to be filled every month. This was not possible as I was having problems with even my basic living expenses. I started doing research and found I could get my medications free through programs sponsored by the pharmaceutical companies. These programs offer medications free for individual's within a certain income bracket who are in the same situation as your brother. I've been getting my medication's free for over 2 years now, and without these programs I would not be taking my medications. Myself and my children have developed a website to assist others in receiving their drugs free. If you are in need and want to check it out then email me and I will direct you to the site and answer any questions you may have.

Aloha, and have a Safe and Wonderful Holiday Season- Pamela

I'm from ohio too and insurance really has screwed me over a couple of times. I go to University Hospitals in Cleveland, and once BCMH dropped me, it was changed to cleveland clinic. They are terrible, let me tell ya. Cleveland Clinic wouldn't approve me seeing my cf doc at University (big competeters). They made me see an asthma specialist...she didn't even know how to treat someone with cf. Finally after a few years of all the crap, I was able to go under University Hospital's insurance (Qual Choice).

I wish you the best of luck with that

Here is a website that can help you find different options in getting help with prescriptions. I know that is only one small part of the issue, obviously he needs help with medical bills as well but at least it's a start. You basically just list the medications you take and enter a little info (such as your age and what state you live in) and it finds all the programs available to you for help with those drugs. I thougt it was pretty cool.... And it's a one stop shop for the help rather than searching each drug company's website. I know it's a terrible situation to be in and unfortunately all too many people find themselves there. I know it's a long shot and it's a huge burden but he may want to seriously consider moving. It's unfair that people are forced to do that but when it comes to life or death, sometimes it's worth it. My sister was in that situation once. She is seriously disabled from a surgery related stroke she had at age 24. She is partially paralyzed, has epilepsy, can't communicate very well and has many other problems. She obviously can't hold a job. She couldn't even care for her children after the stroke. He husband left her and took the kids away from her. She was living in KY but was unable to get any help. She was having seziures because she couldn't get her medication. We had to move her from KY to TN (luckily we lived close to the border) and she qualified for medical assistance in TN although she did not in KY. The move saved her life. Anyway, sorry for rambling..here is the website: https://www.helpingpatients.org/Intro.php .... Best wishes to you and your family.
