Oil of Oregano

Just wanted to share my experience with OO over the past month. I was on vacation for 2 weeks and brought with me a bottle of it to use drops under my tongue. There were two different times when I started to get a sore throat and each time I worried about it getting down into my chest. For me, when I get sore throats I have to be very cautious that it doesn't get into my chest and cause infection, then hospital time, etc. So each time I bumped up to taking drops of OO under my tongue 3x a day instead of 2x. It must be powerful stuff, b/c I swear I was able to completely get rid of the sore throat both times within 2-3 days!!! And that is awesome for me. They usually linger for a while and often get into my lungs. And this was the first time I treated a sore throat with OO.

I do have a lung unfection now which was a result of being around too much cigarette smoke. The OO drops have done nothing for my actual lung infection, but did help get rid of my sore throats. That was my experience and feel it was worth sharing.

** For anyone who doesn't know about Oil of Oregano, look in the Supplements section for it, or do a search for the name in the left hand side of this window to find a boat load of information.

Does anyone else have any new experiences to share while taking OO, drops or inhaled?

Any increased PFTs that you feel can be attributed to it?

Or any negative effects?

Personally I was hoping for something more while using the drops, but was very content with the sore throat situation.

Just curious of other's recent experiences. Thanks.

I was on oil of oregano double strength capsules and drops inhaled with albuterol in my nebulizer.

The dose was one capsule in the AM and 4 drops in PM neb.

The first two weeks I felt better than baseline - decreased cough and sputum - when mucus did come up it was darker than usual (first strange thing)?!
I continued feeling good - minimal cough - no hemotysis - until at 5 weeks I noticed some wheezing by 6 weeks I noticed wheezing and tightness with continued thicker tha(*n baseline mucus.
At this point, I discontinued use and the tightness cleared up within a week and the wheezing took 2 weaks to mostly be gone, 1 mo. totally gone (scary!). Oh and by the way, in case you haven't read elsewhere Lindsey (coltsfan) reported wheezing and tightness. Before OO she had never had any wheezing.
Due to the mucus thickness change that, by the way, is still different... I wonder if I'm culturing something new. I've called and called for my April 5 culture results and found out Friday that they have no record of me giving a spit at my last clinic appt. so I am going in their on Tuesday to give them a spit to analyse.
I did not ever notice an increase in lung capacity (less shortness of breath, etc.). It should be noted though that I was extremely compliant about doing my Vest 2x/day before trying OO.

Will I ever neb it again? Probably not.

Will I ever ingest it again. Yes, probably but I will never stay on it for more than 2 weeks.

I started taking OO gelcaps in Jan, and have not had an infections. I am not sure it has increased lung function, but it has helped keep me infection free so far. I have also been taking NAC and Zinc as well which I started at same time as OO. I have also not had any colds either and have been around others who have at work. Ok, now I will go knock on wood...

I've only been taking OO as a morning vitamin supplement, with the rest of the stuff I take for supplements.
I found no positive effect, but the only negative effect is that sometimes after I take it as prescribed (before meals), I sometimes get an oregano taste for the whole day, or until my next meal. Kinda gross, sometimes, like if I ate spaghetti all day!! Sometimes, those oregano burps can be dastardly!

kelly, i've been on the oo for a while, and the only thing i've noticed that hasn't been mentioned a bunch is that i seem to have "plateaued"...i did notice improvment at first but now i can't really tell what it's doing. all i know is that i'm feeling good, able to exercise with high stamina, and haven't gotten sick. that is enough to keep me doing it though!

I wonder if just the drops could make this tightness happen? I've been sucking wind basically for 1 week now and I wonder if it's just time for me stop the oo drops. I get a tightness in my chest, coughing all night, wheezing as usual...hmmm. Maybe I'll take it out of the mix and use it just for sore throats in the future.

I've been taking the drops now consistently for 2 months, 4 drops 2x day.
