My pregnancy is going well. I am 25 weeks on Friday. My body is adapting to the changes very well. In many ways I feel better pregnant than not! I never thought I'd be saying that. I realize that the next 3 months will be the most difficult since 1st trimester was a breeze. I am rather enjoying the honeymoon of 2nd trimester which technically ends this week :-( I met with my birth doula this weekend that we hired after interviewing a couple of top candidates. I think we made a good choice and I look forward to spending time with her during delivery. She's very soothing and knowledgeable. My DH, she and I went through all the different parts of a birthing plan and made decisions for various things in the event that the birth is relatively complication free. My DH is going to write it up into short bullet points and we will have it distributed to the birth team as well as posted on the wall. We are focusing on the stuff we consider most important and not so much the frilly stuff like music. The frilly stuff I will just do and not ask. Things like waiting for the umbilical cord to stop pumping before cutting it is an A priority for us. This allows the baby to start life with a full blood supply.
My last perinatologist appt went very well. They are happy with my weight which was 12.5 lbs from pre-preg weight. My uterus hasn't really started to move in on the area of my lungs yet. The doctor taught me how to feel my uterus by pushing on my tummy and it was really cool like a water balloon in there. My little boy is quite the kicker these days. He seems to be either soothed or energized by the Vest treatment. I stayed on Tobi even though I was having some ringing because my lungs have been junky. I see the cf doc. on 4/4 so we'll see how my pfts are. My energy is still good so I feel that it's likely just a change in seasons thing and not an infection. My hemoptysis was gone in 1st trimester and now it is spiradic but still not as prevalent as before pregnancy. I got it while they were taking my fundal length measurement which by the way was 23 which they said was right on track for 24 weeks.
I've made some progress on finding childcare for our son. I posted on craigslist for working mom's wishing they could stay home. I got a lot of replies but one in particular that seemed like a good match. I interviewed her this weekend and things are looking good. We have some stuff to work out as well as the fact that I don't want to hire someone until I can see them interact with my son. She is so ready to quite working that she is considering taking the summer off anyway because she just can't stand being away from her little guy. He's 12 mo. now. She suggested that she could help me during my maternity leave with cooking and cleaning all the while interacting with the baby a bit. It seems God has blessed me with this connection. I am trying not to get head over heals set with going with her but it does seem like a good fit. She would come to my house each day with her son and is very flexible. The childcare issue has been the biggest worry for me during pregnancy - - like I said I really can't complain about pregnancy
I have been doing a lot of research about birth and as many of you might remember from my epidural posts, I have decided not to get an epidural for multiple reasons but #1 because of hemoptysis and my inability to move around to a good position. The OB group is not thrilled with this because they say in the case of an emergency c-section they'd have to use general for speed since they couldn't just jack up the epi narcotics. They don't want to have to intubate me but I reassured them that I have had general when I had my gallbladder out and was extubated just fine. I hate how they plan for the worst and wish I could have done this at a birthing center. I plan to stay at home laboring as long as possible since the hospital is a 5 minute drive from my home. I have gotten an exercise ball and sit on it each night to strengthen my perenium (sp?) and also to help encourage the baby to be in a proper birthing position. Did you know that research is thinking that the reason many women in the past's babies were correctly positioned for birth was because of the work the women did on hands and knees..scrubbing floors etc. Now we sit crosslegged in our desk chairs with a rounded back which doesn't encourage the correct birth position. Also couches are the same for bad positioning. I found this very interesting.
How do you all feel about having a hep/saline lock put in early on so in case of dehydration or other need for an IV they've got the entry and no need for finding a vein. My veins suck and if I'm dehydrated I'm sure they won't be better. I think I will opt for this but I also don't want them to use it as a means of control. Although I will be on constant fetal monitoring so it's not like I'll have a lot of freedom. My hope is not to be in the hosp. during early labor but if I am I'm going to inquire about breaks from the monitor for showering, walking around. Also, did any of you mom's get the stocking fetal monitor instead of the synch belt? I am going to try to opt for the stocking...sounds a lot more comfortable.
i meet with the anesthesialogist at 32 weeks and will decide then what I want and don't want should there not be an emergency. The safety of my son and myself is an utmost priority even if it means a less than ideal birth and/or longer recovery for me.
I'm working out - still going to my two aerobics classes and trying to go to a 3rd yoga class each week. I'm starting to get the silly questions like "You aren't going to deliver that baby here in class are you?"
