On IV's at home

Ellie has been on home IV's for 8 days. We have been pretty much hanging out at home and not venturing out. When you are on IV's at home do you pretty much treat it like an oral med and go about your day? Or do you stick at the house, similar to being in the hospital? Thanks.

Hi Sarah,
We go about our day, keeping in mind that the picc needs to stay safe. Anything that may cause an accident where the line could get snagged is out. But normal trips to the store, out to movies, etc, are a go! Do expect looks from strangers. It is just now starting to bother Andrew. He's 11 and has a picc right now and stares from strangers are bothering him this time. But there are ways around that like covering it up or wearing a long sleeved shirt. (kind of uncomfortable in the summer time!)

My girls are older (we didn't do home IV until high school) but when Anna used to get picc lines it was pretty much business as usual with the exception of school. Because she was in high school and the halls were so super crowded during class changes she was afraid it would get bumped (smashed into really). Otherwise we went to the mall, movies, grocery store etc. Just not the obvious like swimming. Rachel would ride her bike with an IV (when she was in the hospital), she was 10.
