I have read a few recipes offered by other CFers to boost calorie intake. Most of them sound extremely sweet to me. I am not big on sweet. I dont eat candy & dont drink a lot of soda. Just as much as the people who want the Triple Fudge, Double Chocolate, Death by Chocolate type deserts.....just as much as they like that it makes me sick to think about. Am I weird? Once in a while I will eat a Hersey Kiss (if its cold/frozen) or a Tootsie Roll & Peanut Butter cup, but thats where it ends. Even any shakes I drink have to be diluted because I think they are too sweet. I have always been like that even as a kid. I do on the other hand love my carbs like mac & cheese. People have actually told me that I am weird when I make a face after they offer me something & I decline.

My CFer isn't big on the sweet stuff. He's more into pretzels, chips, and anything with CHEESE! He can eat a box of mac and cheese by himself. (He's 2) He's now up to the 55th percentile in weight. I think his taste buds are a little off though because he loves the ADEKS drops and takes all his meds like they are the candy.

You're right Melissa. Most people read or hear "high-calorie, high-fat" and automatically think junkfood. That is probably one of the worste things to do. Because you're filling yourself up with foods that take more energy to digest and cause blood sugar ups and downs and refined sugars lower the immune system.Natural peanut butter, avocados, cashews, whole fat dairy products, whole wheat products, meats. These are wonderful alternatives. You can get lots of calories in these foods and lots of good fats without jeopardizing your health for it. There are many more foods that are good sources of fat and calories, but these are the ones that popped off the top of my head. I am like you and LOVE carbs! I get many calories from my homemade whole wheat honey bread, pastas, crackers and cereals. OH! Seeds! Flax seeds and sesame seeds have tons of really good stuff in them and they are easy to put in any/everything. You can grind them up in a coffee grinder if you don't want to know they are there. Sprinkle them in your cereal, on toast, salads, sandwiches, blend them in smooties or shakes, put them in yogurt or cassaroles.

I'm not a huge dessert fan either, but I love gravy and dairy.

When I cook meat I try to make a gravy with it and use it on potatoes, biscuits and in stews. I always use butter when I make my gravy rue. No canned gravy - YUK!

I also make a lot of homemade soups that I'll use (depending on the soup) bacon, butter, sour cream (the kind thats flavored for chips, like Top The Tator.

You'd also be surprised how many calories bread can have (Potatoe bread for example). It costs a little more, but worth it.

For snacks at work, I eat flavored crackers. Currently I'm hooked on Cheez It's Ranch Twisters - yum.

Now I'm hungry.....
