On vacation and someone is sick!

Well, we arrived on vacation and another 4 yo staying with us in our condo is on day 14 of a cough and it is still a bit productive and frequent. My skin is crawling. It is impossible to keep my daughter (also 4) away from her. I want to run for the hills but my husband thinks we should stay and "live life". Thoughts? For those of you with other children, what do you do when another one is sick in the house?

Thanks,

Edan

Ugh! I've been in a similar situation and have been tempted to leave as well. Frequent handwashing, wiping down surfaces, trying to avoid the person. I usually spend quite a bit of time with DS outdoors. And I monitor DS to make sure he isn't a little off.

And then for future reference, DH and I make sure we're on the same page in terms of having a plan in place the NEXT time it happens. We also make sure we check before any family events if anyone is sick ahead of time. And make sure my MIL knows that we will leave is she pulls the "it's just a cold garbage" and we find someone is ill and she knew about it.

Day 14 of a cough... Usually in most casses by that time the virus has already been shed. And is no longer contagious. Unless they have some kinda bacteria which is not as common for a non CF child to usually have. As long as the other child does not have a fever or any green nasal discharge or sputum.. I would kick back and enjoy... To be honest thats just life. Do what you would do if it were another of your children with or without CF coughing. Wash hands make sure not to share cups and stuff. And teach the other kid to cough in their arm...But I really doubt at this point if the kid is contagious. Those cold related coughs can linger forever and you can be well past the contagious point.

When Joanna had her last cought connected with getting a virus from her halfsister (a case of "it's just a cold - garbage" )- the doc told us it may last long - up to 3 weeks even and it's not contagious then.
Sorry you have go through this on vacation. Just try to spend time outside as much as can be I guess.
And if you think it's not enough get your friend to take the child to a local doctor to cheque up and ask wheter its contagious and may be a hazard for her.

Thanks everyone. Turns out there are 3 people sick here, with these long lasting coughs (going on 3 and 4 weeks). The dice said they were viruses, so I am just kicking back and taking it as it comes now
