I read on someone's post that they pulled up their carpeting and placed hardwood floors. Does anyone have any opinions on this? It makes sense that it would keep away dust mites. I worry about steaming carpets too. While the water is hot initially, they don't get up all of the water, so I worry about pseudamonas under the padding. Thanks for your help!

I think hardwoods or other floors that are easy to keep clean are better than carpet. We moved to an apartment while our house was being finished. My daughter seemed to have lots of coughing at night while we lived there. Her dr still brings it up and says it was in his opinion the carpet at that apartment that caused her so many problems. Not sure how we knows that. We have hardwood in our house.

What I like about hardwood and laminate flooring is the ability to see the dust, dander, etc., which will motivate me to sweep or vacuum up the floor.
