OT - Bee Sting

I got a call from DS's preschool saying he got stung by a bee. His first ever. They wanted to know if he'd ever reacted to them before. They were treating him, keeping and eye on him for any reaction. Said he was doing fine, just wanted to let us know.

I figure he's in good hands -- the director has 25 plus years of experience with kiddos. Whereas, I myself have never ever been stung by a bee and would probably being babying him, panicking, covering him with everything available in the medicine cabinet for bug bites.

As long as he's doing okay, don't really want him to obsess about bees. To this day my aunt freaks out every time she sees a bee -- screams and runs off hysterically. L

I hope he is going to be ok. One of my friends had a hole somewhere in her home and hundreds of bees got in. Nobody was hurt but they had to call a professional to come and get rid of the bees. What a nighmare.

Oh, I feel bad for the little guy! I'm waiting for it with my son,
he's always running around in the grass barefoot when he's using
his little pool, and there's clover everywhere. The bees seem to
love that stuff...<br>
I think I might panic a little bit the first time!

when I was four, a large bumble bee started buzzing around my head and so I started running, we were on holiday at the time, at a caravan site, and I stopped running after 5 mins. I was in the next caravan park, didn,t know it at the time, and I couldn't find our caravan so I panicked and started running round this park screaming. It was eventually established that I was from the next park and i was taken there and reunited with my mom and dad. Well ever since I have been sh!t scared of bees, been stung a few times, and I still occaisionally run, much to the amusment of my wife. Don't even ask me about wasps

You might want to ask the school if they know where the bee came from. I have a problem with yellow-jackets at my house: they build underground nests and favor woodsy areas not frequented by traffic and are very aggressive defenders of their nest when disturbed. Our property is big and woodsy and despite spraying nests whenever I find them, they repopulate every year.

Honeybees are lots less aggressive and in the U.S. are in a bad state of decline because of a virus so I'm not advocating the indescriminate extermination of all bees - but I'd not hesitate a minute about erradicating a yellow-jacket nest.

The bee was outside -- either on the playground or while they were out walking. I noticed this weekend both here and at an out of town wedding that there are a lot more yellow jackets and bumblebees out and about than usual.

He was in pretty good hands -- I myself have never been stung, so I probably would've panicked. When I picked DS up, couldn't even see a welt, just a little dot on his neck. They said they put an icepack on it right away and checked his breathing while he napped that afternoon about every few minutes. Their only concern was that he woke up crying for me about an hour into his nap, something he normally doesn't do for them. He told me -- "I cried for you, mommy".

Jazmine was stung my a yellow jacket in Kindergarden. They found a nest built in the wooden playground. It was destroyed & the hole filled in. I am glad it happened at school. At least I know at this point she isnt allergic! She reminds me everytime she sees a bee about that sting tho. I know it seems like yesterday because when I was about her age I stepped on the entrance of an underground nest & got my foot stung. I remember sitting with my foot in a baking soda/water paste for hours! It hurt like hell!
