OT ..... Juvaderm....

Ok, this is not meant to spark any debate on how vain some people are (me in particular). I'm just concerned with my looks and want to keep them as long as possible.

Well I met with the Dermatologist who is one of the best ones in the state. We discussed Juvaderm which is injected into the lips (or other parts of the face).
So anyone know of any allergic reactions to this?

I am allergic to Cipro, Keflex, Ceclor, Avalox and PCN.

Here is some info I pulled up tonight on the computer.
I need to do more research to see if I'd be allergic to any of the 'ingredients.' I'd appreciate any feedback on anyone who has had this specific injection (or if you KNOW someone who has had it, etc).

Here is THEIR info.....
Allergan said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had approved Juvederm, which contains the highest concentration of nonanimal and cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any dermal filler currently available.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural complex sugar found in all living organisms. Treatments with Juvederm last up to six months or longer in most patients, Allergan said.

Juvederm, which adds volume to the folds running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth, is expected to boost sales in Allergan's wrinkle treatment line as top-selling cosmetic procedure Botox faces increased competition.

Botox, which works differently, relaxes the dominant frown muscles between the eyebrows.

Juvederm will compete against market-leading dermal filler Restylane from Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp.

I can't answer your allergy question Kelli but am very interested in the responses you get. As far as being vain is concerned.....phooey to that!! I had red vein treatment done on my face last week (ouch!!) and am currently bleaching my teeth and soon i plan to get botox and restylane too!! I'm chronically ill and already feel like a freak, mainly because i'm so thin. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs (like most of my friends all do) and therefore spend very little money on entertainment, i work a full time very stressful job and earn good money, i only have myself and two cats to look after and if i want to spend a bit of money on maintaining/improving my looks as best i can to make myself feel good, well damn it, i'm going to!!! Anybody who flames me for that had better have balls of steel......lol, because i will nail them to the wall and they'll need iodine for the wounds i inflict!!
Let me know if you decide to go ahead with this treatment, i too will look into it over here as have not heard of it before and apparently it is better than Restylane.
I may be sick but buggered if i'm gonna let myself look it any more than i absolutely have to.

Hi Guys-
I had a frontal sinus obliteration in winter 03...this means they rolled my face down, dug out my sinus in my forehead, and filled it in with fat from the belly. In .5% of this surgery, modeling of the bone occurs...it gets bumby underneath the skin and looks lumpy or "denty." Well, of course, I had the bone modeling. They said I could have surgery again to fix it, another peel the face off surgery, or I could have line fillers injected into my forehead....I chose the filler.

The one they used on me was called Radiance...like Restylane, but lasts around four years. I have a lot of allergy issues...or at least I really used to, and I have had no reaction to this. There is a new product on the market, artefil, that is permanent...but I think it can only be used in certain areas. Anyway, with this one, Radiance, they test a small area to make sure you don't have an allergic reaction...then you go back in to get it injected.

If you go have your filler done, go to a REALLY good doc. If he/she is in a rush to put stuff in your face..run the other way. It is such a good idea to do a test spot and wait, otherwise you are miserable and look miserable.

I was very torn about having something like this put in my face. I had seen my forehead go from nice, to terrible from surgery, to a goose-egg to finally the BIG DENT. I was so self-conscious and was truly startled everytime I looked at myself in the mirror. The men in my life, dad, brother, boyfriend..now husband...said it was not that noticable. The woman all were honest and said, ya, it would definitely bother them....

I don't know...I just kept saying NOW, I look like I have an illness...I guess to me that dent was another reminder I wasn't going to hide my illness on the inside forever. My husband said it was a battle-scar...I consider my 7 sinus surgeries, 3 port placement, one collapsed lung from port placement my battle scars....the DENT was just the last straw!!!!

Hope this helps.

I dont have any info on this, but I had to share my thoughts. First of all...OUCH! I hope it works well for you and dont worry about people thinking you are vain. Everyone has something that others dont approve of. Secondly dont over do it....all I can think of is a movie with Goldie Hawn in it where she overdid it and her lips stuck out like a pair of fish lips. I think it might have been the movie "Ex Wives Club". OMG now that image will be in my head all day! UGGGGGG.....

Thank you ALL so much! I was so afraid to put myself out there with this topic because some people are all about not messing with things when you have CF going on.

On that note, KrazyKat, I think we could be best friends. I feel the exact same way that you do. Why NOT fix (or at lease modify a little) something that I'm not wild about?! It's MY body. Granted, I'd never do anything to alter my looks completely, I just want a little boost.

I have an appt on Wednesday to get the Juvaderm. I'll take pics, they also do before and afters. I don't know how to post pictures on here so I can just e-mail them to those of you who would like to see.
PM your e-mail addresses to me.

I seriously appreciate your responses. I don't want to be over-the-top vain, but I do want to be happy. And since I have the resources to do that, then why the heck not?!
