OT -- My baby is growing up

Max has been telling me for the past few months that he's growing bigger and bigger -- that his feet are growing bigger 'cuz he's been trying to convince us that he's big enough for "Moon shoes", which he saw an a commercial but are for ages 7 and up. When I ask him where my baby went, he tells me he grewed up.

Just seems as if every week, every day he becomes more articulate. More of a big boy. Eek! In a year and a half he'll start kindergarten and I'm already nervous about it.

Anyway, last night when I picked him up from daycare/preschool there was an invitation to a classmate's birthday party at the local gymnastics gym. Only an hour and a half on Saturday, but this is the first time ever that he's been invited to an activity outside of school.

I'm a stupid nervous wreck, but we think he needs to go. Can't be bubbleboy, right!

They grow up so fast. Let him go to the b-day party. At that age usually parents stay anyway and you can get to know the other parents. I'm sure he'll have a blast. Maggie just turned 4, had her 4 year check up and had some developmental tests. The ped said she's ready for kindergarten, yikes! She's not going for another year and a half as well because of the age cut-off.

Absolutely go! You and he will have so much fun! Sometimes I think 'germs be d@mned'; for example, Katy got this horrible high fever (went to doc; it was a virus) for a few days over the Christmas break and she had not seen anyone but us for 5 days prior to getting it, and we hadn't been anywhere. We hadn't been anywhere because we declined to go to a family gathering where a person was being brought home from a Nursing Home for the day, to attend the gathering.

I think Max and Katy must be pretty close in age (she was born in late May of 2003). This is my absolute favorite age - kind of still some baby traits, but definitely growing up! And their reasoning skills - watch out! Like when she got sick, she asked how come she did, even though we had been doing breathing treatments, meds, etc.

This is the first of many kid events, as you know, so close your eyes when you see a kid sneeze on him and cross your fingers. And enjoy!

I'm not so much worried about germs -- they've gone to some nasty germ ridden places with his preschool -- the county fair exhibits, the indoor dinosaur playground at the mall, zoo, pumpkin & apple picking, the park, movies...

It's just that this is the first event outside of school - his first real big boy event. Going to a birthday party! And what's next -- play dates?! Eek, I'm not used to all this stuff. I'm not ready to be that kind of mom?! Heck, I still think sometimes, "What the heck am I doing? I'm actually a PARENT?!" Cue twilight zone music.

Took Max to the gym and met up with the other parents and kids. Someone made a comment about all the wild children and the birthday girl's dad made a comment about their middle child being so wild, that they don't mind the chaos. Plus they had a party coordinator on site.

Max had a wonderful time, although wants to go back to the party, so we're looking into signing him up for gymnastics once a week. DH asked one of the parents, who decided to stay and keep an eye on things, about what types of things did they do and the mom answered "There was lots of age appropriate activities". -- snicker!
