I had a tooth extracted on the 6th and my jaw hasn't been right ever since. I have TMJ so I was expecting some discomfort, but this isn't getting any better. I've tried heat and ice, ibuprofen, aleve, massaging it, stretching....nothing works. I can barely chew anything. I am freaking starving because it takes me forever to even eat a bowl of macaroni and cheese. ANybody have any ideas? I'm going to talk to my chiropractor about it and maybe call the oral surgeon, but in the mean time I'm going nuts.

I'd call the oral surgeon about it so he can check and make sure you aren't getting an infection in it. Drink lots of Instant Breakfast and have lots of cream of (whatever you can stand) soup, pudding and yogurt if you can . Hope it gets feeling better soon.

I had this problem when I had a tooth extracted. It turned out not to be from the extraction itself, but from the novacaine shot. The needle hit/did something which made it near impossible to open my mouth. I never went to anyone. I just took ibuprofen, ice packs & kept working on it until it finally "popped" on its own. A chiropractor might be a good place to start. Drink anything high calorie until you can get things taken care of. I feel your pain.....doesnt do you a damn bit of good, but I do!

I forgot, you might also want to have it checked and make sure you don't have "dry socket".

I called the oral surgeon today. They said that its normal to have pian/discomfort in your jaw for 10-14 days...if you DON'T have jaw problems. So with my TMJ it could be a while. They said I am doing everything right with the heat, and massage etc. If it isn't doing any better by the end of the week I'll call again and demand they give me a muscle relaxer. Its not an infection or dry socket, I don't have any of those symptoms. My jaw muscles are tight from having my mouth cranked open as far as it would go while they reemed that tooth out. I tell ya, at this point I would kill to be able to eat some chicken!
