Ovulation? Is it happening?

I am so glad you are all so knowledgeable about this fun, amazing, and sometimes trying process. We have the thumbs UP from my CF team and OBGYN to start a family. I was on birth control for 7 years and stopped taking in July!!! That seems like a century AGO! I totally thought we wouldn't be still trying! I'm trying to track when I ovulate. I am doing the morning temperture thing now and do not see a spike in temp as indicated post ovulation. Never realized how low our temps are prior to getting out of bed but still can nail down when I ovulate.

Any other suggestions? Hubby is trying to encourage me to be patient but that gets hard when you're not sure of the future! Any suggestions on how you went through this process would be helpful.

I got off the pill and tracked my cycles for 6 months using http://www.fertilityfriend.com/
I used the knowledge it provided along with a book I read (spacing on the title sorry) to PREVENT pregnancy. Then after 6 months I was ready to start trying. We got pregnant the first month of trying. I recall being confused at first until I got it all in the calculator. Once I learned I ovulated on day 21 of my cycle like clockwork, the rest didn't matter LOL.

LOL I'm sure your husband is like don't worry it might take some time. Mine was like what we're already done? He liked that everyother day happy dance schedule :)

Hi and welcome to the mama game-I remember 4 years ago when my docs gave me the go ahead for ttc-(I now have a 2.5 yr old)
Being told you can go and get preg-It is the best feeling!!! Congrats on that alone. Your pfts are awesome girl-so right off the bat-relax! Keep taking care of yourself. You'll be glad for those clean lungs when you are getting 3 hrs of sleep per night with a 1 month old...hee hee.

How many months have you been tracking your ovulation with temps? Are you using ovulation kits too? They can be expensive, but they're totally worth it. (plus you can get just as reliable but cheaper ones online)

I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Plus ovultaion kits (opks). I think doing the temp thing is great-it can give you more information. For me though, there is no pattern. Some months I ovulate on the 18th-some on the 22nd...and with temps you are looking for a pattern. PLus once you have had your temp spike, you've likely already ovulated so...it is tricky for some women. I spoke to my obgyn about this and he said that for a % of women, they will just never have the temp pattern to help with conception. I guess I'm one of them.

But I know plenty of women that love that method. Opks seem like a no brainer (other than cost). But a cost thats worth it to me.

The other factor is stress. Its really hard not to stress/or having it on your mind constantly. Esp when you are getting up early each day to track and peeing on sticks and not standing in front of the microwave....lol!
But it totally affects the cycle.

The other factor is you husband! If it take longer than a few more months I'd check that out. Just to be sure.

With my daughter I got preg the 2nd try. (like Lauren, we were preg together) I've been trying for 5 months now with no results yet. So go figure!

Best wishes to you and keep us updated. Feel free to pm or ask away with any questions you have.

Both my OB/GYN and RE said that the fact that I was getting my period about every month my cycles varied from 25-35 days) meant I was almost definitely ovulating. So, w/out even tracking your temps, that alone could help answer your question. Ditto LouLou on fertilityfriend.com - that site is really helpful because it will automatically tell you if it thinks you ovulated.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that, I'm not sure if you know that CF can affect our fertility by making our cervical mucus too thick for sperm to swim through. Many women with CF can get pregnant on their own w/out help, but many others need to see a fertility specialist to get help conceiving. The rule of thumb I always hear is that, if you are over 35 or have a reason to suspect you might have trouble conceiving (such as having CF), you might want to considering seeing a fertility doctor after 6 months of trying own your own. (Otherwise, people say to wait a year.) So, you are right around that six month mark, if you wanted to look into that.

My husband and I tried on our own for eight cycles - I charted and took mucinex and used OPKs and I was ovulating and we had good timing, but I never got pregnant. So, then we saw the fertility specialist and he started doing intrauterine insemination to bypass the cervical mucus - I got pregnant on the third try, lost the baby, and then got pregnant again on the next try, (I am now 24 weeks pregnant).

Good luck to you! Congrats on your great health and getting the go ahead from your doctors!
