ovulation pattern

Hi everyone,

I've been doing my OPK for a couple months now, and both read positive on day #16. Now I'm on day #17 and still nothing. I'm already getting worried that I won't ovulate this month. My cycles are not regular (which is not good already), but it seemed I was ovulating at the same time at least - just my luteal phase was inconsistent.

Should I be worrying already? Does your ovulation day change every cycle?

This is a really frustrating process I'm finding out! All the waiting....and waiting...

Thanks!

The phase before ovulation can vary a lot due to stress, illness, etc. Usually the luteal phase is the same give or take a day for each woman. I generally ovulate between day 20 and day 22. One cycle I ovulated on day 17. Complete fluke really.

Are you charting your cycles? If you aren't, I suggest doing so to help you identify any patterns you may not be seeing. Is your cervical fluid looking fertile yet? How about your cervix? Also, what time of day are you doing the OPK? They're best done in the afternoon between 2 and 8 PM. I generally do mine around 2 PM.

There is an herb you can take to help regulate your cycle - its called Vitex. From what I've read it takes about 3 months to really work but its worth a shot if you aren't successful this cycle. Google it and read about it. I started it last cycle and am now waiting to ovulate (looking at Thanksgiving or the day before).

Just to reiterate what Caroline said, you should find the the number of days after you ovulate and before your period starts (the luteal phase) to be consistent - meaning you may not ovulate until day 43, but if you have a 14 day luteal phase, you'll start your period on day 57 - if that make sense. If you find that your luteal phase is less than 10d ays or fluctuates greatly, you need to see a reproductive endocrinologist to have your hormone levels checked out.

Thanks for the help ladies! I did not realize that the luteal phase should be the same every month. I guess I shouldn't be too worried then that I haven't ovulated on my regular schedule. I just wish my darn periods were regular!

Thanks again <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
