i am about a couple of weeks past my 30-day trial with the vest and hill rom is currently in the process of getting approval of my insurance. i am now about to be on my THIRD vest--the first two basically had the same problem of air leaking from the hose connection. i have also had a series of experiences on the phone with them where they showed total incompetance. as much as i'd love to go into detail, i don't feel like getting my blood pressure up!

i called my adult CF coordinator today to see if there were any other options of companies to go through--she said she has only ever gotten two vests from another company, that 98% of the patients there have the hill rom vest. she is happy to contact the other company, the SmartVest, but she has no idea if they will be willing to take my state insurance. hill rom does accept it, she knows. anyway, i'm straying from the point...

i looked online both at the ElectroMed SmartVest and the RespirTech inCourage System and i can't tell if it would be worth the trouble to try to get one of those. i have also been reading through amy's stuff that dr. warwick said and it seems he thinks the inCourage is the best with the triangle oscillations, but am i wrong in saying that there isn't a whole lot of proof for this assertion??? i know he said there have been no comparison studies using the machines at their optimal settings.

do i stay with hill rom and all the BS or bail??

My thought is to find out about whether the other companies would work with your state insurance and then take it from there. I think you'll be good to go with either vest company, personally. Just focus on getting it covered first. They're all high chest compression machines. That's what I would do. Good luck.

I would contact the other vest companies. I'm sure they have a department, which works with insurance companies and medical providers, so they can point you in the right direction. I know Hill Rom does, so would think the others would alson.

My kids have both the respirtech and the hill-rom. We LOVE the respirtech one. I only use that one now that they both have lung infections. My kids ask to wear that one and I notice that the cough during their treatments with the Respirtech but not the Hill-rom. It runs without stopping, the hoses don't come off, it is programmable, it changes frequencies constantly, and Dr. Warwick truly believes it is a better design than his original. It also costs about $3,500 less than the Hill-rom, which was significant to us since we had to pay for some of the vest.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 5 and Jack, 3 both with cf
