Pain in prego belly when coughing

I'm now entering my 3rd trimester. I'm having more pain when I cough than I remember the first time around. It was almost 4 years ago so I don't know if I just don't remember it being this much, or what. I'm also carrying higher this time, and am much bigger this time around. I've already put on 16 lbs! (I only put on 18 the whole pregnancy last time!)
Its during chest pt or a coughing spasm. Its like a muscle ripping in my lower belly-under my belly button. (being clear-nothing to do with lung/breathing pain) Its been going on for weeks now. I recall having this sensation the last time, but more towards the end when I was huge. I mean I still have months to go!
Sometimes I cough so hard I feel like my water will pop! There are nights where I have such a 'tired' feeling in my belly that I do albuterol and my acapella but refrain from doing that deep coughing type of chest pt bc I feel like my belly can't take it, or maybe its too much for the baby.
I guess I need assurance that its ok or something, or normal. I know of course that coughing won't hurt the baby. But how much is too much? Sometimes I just feel like too much heavy chest pt maybe isn't a good idea right now.
Also just wondering if anyone gets or got that same feeling when they cough.

Hi there,

I don't know if this is the same type of pain...but I had a lot of pain in my groin area. But this is due to the stetching of the pelvic ligaments and the uterus (from my understanding) and that pain is very normal. I'm wondering if this is the pain you're talking about? If it's more in your belly, I'm not sure what that could be. Maybe ask your OB or CF doctor if they have any ideas.

But I would definitely would try to keep up on your CPT. I remember having a very "full" feeling in my 2nd trimester (is that were you are in your pregnancy?) I started getting very anxious about the full feeling. But I recall my CF doctor telling me that I had more mucus build up in my lower lobes during pregnancy because we take breaths less deep when we're pregnant. That is why it's important to keep up the deep coughing and CPT.

Good luck!

Maybe you could bring your equipment in and do a round of pt while on fetal monitoring in the office. This way you'll be assured it's just hurting you and not the baby :) In terms of how to relieve this pain, I have no idea. Huff coughing instead? I had the round ligament pain which was very intense but more in hips and groin than by the belly button. Let us know.
