Pain Management in Adult with CF

Hi All -

I am new to this site and wanted to begin communicating with other members of the CF community to gain information about treatment. My boyfriend is 26 year old male with Cystic Fibrosis. Recently his left lung collapsed and he under went invasive surgery. We are having a hard time with his pain management doctor currently, who no longer feels comfortable prescribing vicodin (fears he will become "addicted")- my question is what pain management are other people using for severe chronic pain and what options are out there. Without pain management I fear the quality of life is very poor for him and he is unable to do simple things like get up out of bed in the morning. Really looking for some HELP!

Thank you!!!

How can anyone not prescribe vicodin for lung pain? sorry but some people really don't make sense to me.

My story is very different from most CFers because I have gone naturally most of my life and relied on God alone and some, some medicines, but I hardly do any of what I am seeing on that most CF people take.
However I do not want to sound negative on anyting and I will be sharing my story on a blog I am setting up.

i take Vicoprofen which is similar to Vicodin and it helps me greatly for severe pain. I am fifty years old and are struggling with Valley Fever (cocci fungus) which makes me cough so much that i get very very sore and nothing but vicoprofen kills my pain. You might want to give it a try, it is less strong than Vicodin but very effective and all itis is the hydrocodone and ibuprofen.
If you are not allergic to Ibuprofen Vicoprofen might help.

I find it of GREAT help. There are days when I cannot move at all, dont have lung collapse though, but do have severe pains here and there from extreme cough.

I also take Dead Sea salt baths and find huge relief doing so.
I m documenting all I do in a blog which I just started and sort of going slow right now but you will find much in there once I am done.

there are many naturral ways to kill pain.
Juniper and Melissa essential oils GREATLY reduce the pain or get rid of it temporarily.
I have loved the brand Swiss Just which carries a wonderful Juniper bath product that truly gets rid of pain and brings wellbeing.

It is absorbed via the blood stream thru hot water in the bath. 20 to 40 mins soak in the bath with some of the pain killing essential oils and one is good to go. I have done it for years. Though it is very expensive it is worth it.

I am so sorry for the pain you're all going thru. I will also suggest something I have done which is the only thing I find relief , pray to Jesus for healing and he never denies anyone help and love and answers.
I am alive today and not having been fully immersed in medicatins and other severe problems becuse of miraculous interventions that I have even shared with other doctors at my hospital and they call me their 'miracle patient'.
Jesus is the Great Physician ask for relief and end to that pain and trust that He will deliver and you will see help and answers.

I know that for CFers it may be hard to believe in God when we go thru so much, but I have only seen my help come from the Lord.

I pray for that pain to go away and mean time try Vicoprofen and the Juniper bath oils. It will help.

Paula, what a great read. thank you so much for sharing your story as its so nice to hear from other people and to feel that my BF is not alone. I will research these oils and would love for him to try them as he already takes 1-2 hot baths a day. I will also look at your blog as I'm sure many other people would like to as well. Thank you again! You will be in my thoughts and prayers!
