Papaya enzyme

I was in the vitamin store today and they were sampling papaya enzyme suppliments. The girl who worked there said that it helps break down protein (I would guess lo-carb dieters buy this stuff by the case), but I thought it could be good for us too. She said it can help make you more....uh....regular. They were little chewable pills that actually tasted pretty good. Has anybody heard of this before?

froggy, I ran this by Mark because his dad owns a health food store and this is his area, heres what he said. If you are taking enzymes (creon, Ultrase...) that should be enough because those assist in breaking down proteins, fats and carbohydrates. If you are not on enzymes the papya supplements could be beneficial to you just to keep you regular and give you an extra kick for absorbing protein. You could also add them to your enzyme supplementation, but he said if your enzymes are covered by ins. you should go for that because you are going to pay out of pocked to something that is very similar for something you could get paid for my ins. and if you feel you aren't getting enough of a protein, fat and carb absorbtion you should talk to your doc. about it.
If your issue is more of a regularity problem, you should look into fiber pills, (or extra food with fiber i.e. a bran muffin, metamucil...) as that can specifically assist with that.

Girl, you know everything!!! Haha.

I personally am fine with enzymes but I know some people have trouble with them so maybe the papaya would help them.

Actually, mark talked and I typed-he's the expert in this field. I am clueless about this so this one was from him.
