Passive Smoking

My mother-in-law and father-in-law are heavy smokers. They smoke in the house. When we visit we go into another room but it still smells smoky. I think the world of my in-laws, but this issue is constantly on the back of my mind when we visit. When the weather is nice (which is not very often at the moment as we live in North Wales) they smoke outside. They are really convinced that it is fine because they are outside. I strongly disagree with this, because the smoke is still in the area. I could go on, but I won't. I'm sure you're with me on this one and know where I'm coming from. Any suggestions?

Coming from a smoking family I understand. My Mom chain smokes right in front of me. My husband is also a smoker (no lectures please ~ I am full aware) and although he smokes outside the smell lingers on him.

I have come right and told him at times to stay the hell away from me because he stinks. The smell penetrates everything even with ventilation.

It is a nasty and unhealthy habit. Chances of making anymore progress is unlikely, but I wouldnt let up on the "jabs" of how things smell & annoying, disgusting and harmful the habit is.

Maybe they will listen and maybe they wont. In the meantime you do what you must. I am right there with ya!

Cheers! No lectures, thanks for that, just what I needed. It just really pis*es me off that people are so selfish. My mum is also a heavy smoker, but she never smokes in the house. Not just about CF, I'm the same with no CF. I absolutely think it is a selfish, disgusting, filthy and ignorant habit. Fine, if they want to shi*t up their lungs, go ahead, but don't sh*t up mine and my daughters in the process. There, I'm done. Last month, they made it law, to abolish smoking in public places in this country. We're finally getting somewhere.

I feel ya, my dad was a heavy smoker for 30 years. I used to hate giving him a hug or anything because he stunk! He always smoked outside though, so at least it wasn't throughout the entire house. My husband is a smoker too (I know, I KNOW!). He smokes outside too. But sometimes I wanna cuddle him when we go to bed and I get close to him and start to gag. When we're in the car he'll go for his smokes and I have to tell him he can't smoke with me in the car. I've tried to get him to quit but he doesn't want to, so I can talk till I'm blue in the face and it doesn't matter.
