Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has experience with culturing Penicillium Sp.? It is a fungus very similar to aspergillis. I have recently been unwell with slightly unusual symptoms, very similar to when I had ABPA. I am very allergic to moulds and the ABPA caused a lot of grief but hasn't showed up on a culture for quite a while now. My culture this week came up with the Penicillium sp.. My doctor said it was most likely not related to my symptoms and very little is known about it in CF and it wouldn't produce a reaction like the aspergillis. On doing a little research I found it is common to be allergic to the penicillium but couldn't find anything about allergic reactions in the lungs specifically.
If anyone has cultured this I would love to hear from you and particularly if you had symptoms and whether your doctor treated them? I am on day 10 of IV's and feeling no better, obviously antibiotics won't help the fungus so I would love to know if we are going in the right direction.
