Okay, we have asked or CF doctors and they said dogs are fine, unless are son becomes allergic. They also told us CF should not be a reason to find new homes for our two dogs. But, I'm starting to wonder if our English Bull Dogs short hair could become a problem. Both my sisters have asthma, and react every time they are in my home for more than an hour. We have hard wood floors so I try my best to keep up on his shedding short hair. We had air filters in the past but they get clogged in just a couple days. The hair get's everywhere. Anyone have any comments on dogs and CF? Thanks..

As long as your baby is not allergic, I say you're ok. In fact I think it's healthy to have animals. We have 2 huge cats have had them for 14 years. We recently got a dog(have had her for almost a year). I have not noted any problems lung wise due to the animals. I try to vaccum often and my daughter has an air purifier in her room. She LOVES the animals and they keep her company when she does treatments<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

We've always had short haired dogs, too -- bassets. And hardwood floors. I find using either an electric broom or hardwood floor attachment on the vacuum do wonders. Also, speak to a groomer or a breeder about grooming your dog. If you brush your dog daily, that'll help get control of the hair issue, too. There are special brushes you can get. We also have a hepa filter air cleaner in DS' room. He LOVES his dog.

I'm with Rebecca. As long as your kid doesn't have a dog hair allergy as well (unrelated to the CF... having CF doesn't automatically give you allergies), dogs are fine. I've grown up with all sorts of pets. My doc always knew and never cared.

Just FYI, at one point I had as many as 6 dogs in the house (and most of them were golden retrievers --- big and furry). I've also had: Cats, fish, birds, guinea pigs, mice, hamsters, and a ferret.
