PFTs

Its very difficult to go by age. There are many who have a severe case and many that have hardly any problems. In addition to that the PFT test is quite dependant on effort. If for some reason someone can give it all they've got then it will read lower then the true lung function. I personally know that if I am tired or hungry or if I have my period it affects things tremendously. He is in the area that could use more work (so to speak), but not necessarily in the danger zone. A lot of his function can depend on environment also. Such as smog, smoke, animals etc.

that would be considered a little low, but it is hard to get a quality PFT on a 10 year old sometimes.

Hi there! I agree with the others.....PFT's can differ day to day, depending on how you feel..If you have a cold or other issues, it will throw it off. An FEV1 of 70 is on the low side, but not terrible, so that's a good thing. I know being a mom that you are on that doc like white on rice about the breathing, meds etc...LOL, I know I am about my kiddies (the both don't have CF, just other health issues). Just keep a good eye on it, alot depends on how your kid feels too...I hope I have helped. Hugs, Cepaciagal

I wouldn't worry about it. At ten if you keep your kid healthy, he/she might grow out of 70%. Besides, at ten, I don't think I executed a PFT as well as I could have... at ten I could barely put one foot in front of the other with enough coordiantion to kick a soccer ball. Just stay on top of his/her lungs to keep them clear.
