PGD Anyone?

Has anyone been through Invitro and PGD? I have 1 child with CF and 1 without and would love to have another child but can't take the chance of having another child with CF. I have looked into PGD but don't know of anyone else that has gone through this process. Would love to hear of other experiences before I make a final decision.

Thanks.

I had PGD done last year. I have one child also with cf and felt the same way you did...... If I had the money I would do it again. It did work for me, but I then had a miscarriage. You just do not know how your body is going to take it. I is hard though, when the DR came back with the results, ( I had 8 eggs total) which ones were carriers, which ones had CF, and which ones did not, I felt very guilty for a while knowing what would happen to those eggs that I did not put in. It was an emotion I did not think I would react towards, but your emotions are all out a wack from the drugs. All in all , it is very expensive, a lot of dr appt, drugs, shots but in the end I would do it again. Now is the hard part. What do I do now?

My husband and I talked ALOT about doing PGD and were pretty sure I would get pregant because I do not have a hard time getting pregnant, but in the end, the large expense was too much for us. So, we tried the old fashion way and took our chances...thankfully we ended up with a beautiful baby girl without CF. We did however have her tested throught CVS and knew at 11 weeks that she was ok. If she wouldn't have been, who knows what we would have done....good luck to you and may God bless you! <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">

I have a 2 1/2 year old child with cf. This past summer we did the PGD. It is a lot to do but well worth it. We have done the implantation once. It did not work, but we do have 2 more embryos frozen. We are going to try it at the end of the summer. I don't want to have to mess with winter and newborns and daughter with cf. Even if it doesn't work again, we will go thru it all over agian.

Thank you to all for your responses. My doctors told me as well that my chances are a little better than the normal IVF candidate because I don't have fertility problems. Although they did say with sticking the embryo's for genetic testing increases the chance of it not working so my total chances even out to everyone elses. I have talked to 2 centers and the IVF process is very costly and varies from center to center. I am seeing costs from 6000 and up and that does not include the drugs or the genetic testing. My insurance company does cover the genetic testing portion since I have a child with CF. I would interested in hearing if anyone has success at this?

The cost for us total for PGD including the genetic testing was about $15,000. Another option is a doner egg with your husbands sperm and have that implanted. I think the cost would be considerably less. You can also do doner sperm. The are many options available to you. All doner both male and female are tested for CF and are not carriers.

Donor egg and sperm are actually more expensive because people who donate their egg and sperm get paid when you select them. The fee can range from an additional $1000 to the person, up to $5000-$6000.
