philosophy of care

I am wondering how everyone opts to go about their Cf care. What I mean is, I am sure we all have a differetn philosophy by which we deal with and treat Cf. For example: do you trust your doctor inherently and do everything s/he suggests; are you aggressive or do you tend to wait things out; do you prefer to try natural remedies before going to meds; are you eager to try new things or do you stick with the tried and true, etc.?

I am sort of wrestling about with changing how I
have treated myself in the past but resistent to opting for other avenues, so I am interested to hear what you all have ot say

I don't trust everything my doctor says without question, never have. I always ask why he's doing a new med, or a new therapy, or a new test, or whatever. And my doc never really tells me what to do. He discusses the options, asks my opinion. Love that man. Anyways, so we always decide together what to do next.

I don't go too aggressive, but I don't want things out either. Basically, whenever my lungs become a real pain in the ass, I'll email my doc and be like "here's the deal, what to do" and he throws suggestions at me and we try something.

I do not do natural remedies, ever. That stuff just annoys me, personally.

I don't love trying new stuff, but I'm not against it either. If the doc thinks is the best path, I'll usually give something new a try, at least. Though I don't really enjoy the idea of clinical trials. I prefer to go on stuff that's already been through trial. I'm not totally against trials, I just have yet to find one that seemed worth it for me to try it. Mostly, it's easier to do stuff that's already been tested. And I'm lazy. Ha.

I hope that's what you were looking for? If I missed anything, let me know.

I trust our doc inherently, and with good reason. He is very experienced and also has a philosophy that I agree with, which is treat proactively and agressively and don't wait around.

I would love to try more natural therapies but since I also like to do thorough research on both "medical" and homeopathic stuff, I simply run out of time and energy to properly research. The only non-prescribed thing we do is Culturelle, which our doc gave the okay on "if it makes me (the mom) feel better".

We are eager to try new things and will know on Tuesday if we get to participate in the latest Phase III Denufosol trial.

I know we've only been at this a few years now and your probably hoping for some more experienced replies but that's my two cents.

We are new at this... so we do what the doctor says he thinks is best. But then I go home and research it myself and if I find other alternatives, etc. I call back and question his choice.

So I guess my point is that we don't follow the doctor blindly. If we don't agree we question him. We discuss everything before it is implemented.

I believe that I am my daughter's advocate. As she gets older I want her to feel that she is her own advocate. I will teach her by example that she makes the final decision on her care.
