<br>My daughter's picc was removed on friday.  It was her first one, and i'm not sure if it's healing normally.  both the stitching points and the spot that the picc went in are are red and somewhat swollen.  she says it doesn't hurt, and she has no fever or any other signs of infection.   she's also on bactrim which would probably prevent infection... i think?? any thoughts would be helpful.  we are very new to all of this. thanks-C

Is that how it looked when the line was removed? If so, I wouldn't worry about it. It does take a while for the site to heal. If the redness and swelling are worsening, that would concern me.

Hope she can stay picc-free for a while!

It sounds pretty normal, but if you are truly concerned you should call your nurse.

Also, I get what is called a stat lock instead of stitches. It is an adhesive pad that sticks to the skin and locks the picc to the stat lock. You can avoid stitches!! I don't know why some places still stitch them in...
