My daughter gets spots on her bottom.  Looks like pimples; likely my opinion her staph on her skin.  Do you do anything for it?  She has one that is slightly bigger and "itchy" I have her soak in Epsom salts bath, usually seems to help; but she usually will only do it every other day.  Should I be concerned it will turn into something worse?  Like a skin staph infection?  I also have been using Dial soap.  <div><br></div><div>One summer last year, I showed her CF doc the "rash" on her bottom.  He thought it was from sitting in a wet bathing suit/being sweaty in the summer. He seemed very unconcerned about it. My daughter was very embarrassed.  </div><div><br></div><div>Anyone else get these?</div>

My dd (no cf) has eczema and was/is prone to staph infections on her skin. When she was younger, it was especially bad on her bottom and thighs. If it's mild enough and contained to a small enough area, we just use neosporin and keep the area clean and well moisturized. When it gets really bad, only the combo of an oral antibiotic and an rx antibiotic cream clear it up. On the rare occasion, the pedi will culture it if it's especially resistant.

As an infant/toddler/pre-schooler, we used magic butt paste anytime it flared up to try to prevent the need for antibiotics. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not.

Not sure how the pedi would have treated if dd had been our cfer.

Good luck <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

If she cultures staph I would suspect that is what it is. My son gets it too. Once I had one lanced and cultured...sure enough mrsa. When he was little it turned into a big raw spot that required bactroban (and then the next time we used the competitors version which is a shorter treatment).

My first defense is: When he gets it now as he had it last evening. I try to first step his bathing up to daily -soap and water with a rough washcloth. Make sure the washcloth gets washed in hot water then and change her towel daily. Also no jammies more than one night. Also I encourage him to wipe down with a baby wipe each time he goes to the bathroom while he has the rash. At night I apply desitin because he is still in nighttime diaps.

If it carries on more than 3-4 days then I run a bath 1/3-1/2 full and put 1/8 a cup of bleach in the bath. These were doctors orders when he had a bad bout of it when he was little.

Sometimes I notice a breakout a bit before symptoms start with a cold. Perhaps we should increase Vit C and probiotics to give them a boost. Let me know if you have further thoughts on an immune defense plan. I'd love to try to take his health up a notch with a more resilient immune system.

I got these really bad when I was first diagnosed with staph (in high school). The infection control doc gave me special ointment to put on the boils (they looked like bad acne). I get them to this day when my immune system gets iffy and obviously when my staph reappears. I just got my staph back and had several boils on my body (even one horrible one in my nose).

I wash my clothes, towel and bedding in warm water. Right now since my staph is back I change my towels quite often, wash cloths every day and bedding every week, pajamas every night if I have break out. If I can I cover the boil with a bandage and change it at least once a day.

Thorough handwashing after cleaning the boil or surrounding skin. I find they spread like wildfire if I am not careful. I do not want to share them with my family.

Oh, the joys of CF and staph infection!!

Thank you for your input. She cultures 2 types of staph; the last time she was throat swabbed it was staph not MRSA. It's funny cause she has had a few colds since school started but got through them ok. Sh is on Bactrim daily. Maybe it is from sitting so much at school.

I really like using the Epsom salts, 2 large scoops dissolved in the bath. It dehydrates the pimples, so they shrink. I thought of doing a bleach bath but her lungs are so sensitive I was afraid it would irritate her airways.

I should change her sheets more often. I always use fresh towels and jammies but forget the sheets.

I need to bleach out her bathtub more often too. Plus she has these bath toys she loves and I am sure they need a bleach soak or to be thrown in some control3 solution.

I tried tea tree oil on the pimples but the smell is too strong, too.

Covering the bigger spot would be hard cause it's on her tush. I'll have to think about it. I have not used antbitotic ointment cause I thought the moisture from ointment would just be another thing to make the staph grow.

DS gets the rash, too. Always assumed it was from sweating. We sometimes put epsom salts or just regualr kosher salt in the tub -- especially in the summer when he's sweating out more salt.

He also has issues with Milia on his face. We recently switched to Retin A, which is bringing some of them to the surface. They have a hard, keratin core and sometimes they do get irritated, inflamed. The dermatologist indicated short of taking him to the medispa for microdermabrasion, there was probably not much we could do. At this age, I think it's a bit silly to send an 8 year old to the spa for facials or other skin treatments.
