Planning to move. looking for the best suitable location for the Wife with CF

Id really like to move out of Las Vegas as it is quite ugly and have grown on me enough to want to leave. Id trying to research the best I can to find where is the most suitable location to move to within the US (in terms of temperate/climate) for patients with CF.

A little history first. My wife is 25. She has CF and Diabetes. She has lived in LV her whole life. Some say dry climates are better than humid climates, etc. Problem is the allergens in the dry air as well as excessive dust due to lack of humidity (15% or less on average). This is my concern with the dry climate here. Not to mention its ugly as hell.

Im spending a lot of hours on where Id like to live, but I am trying to do my best to research and find what will also work best for my better half. We plan to have kids and I want to make sure all things surrounding married life with future kids is covered.

Any input would be handy, thanks!

Hi EckoInLasVegas,

Two things to consider would be:

Climate
CF Centers

The Denver area has the best rated CF clinic and with the altitude, the allergies actually decrease.
However, since the volume of oxygen also decreases, the consideration for her currrent lung function would have to be made, but if she has good lung functions, its possible she may adjust to the altitude. However, Denver isn't the first to consider.

Another area would be Hawaii. Although I don't know what the CF center situation is there, it is found from a study that salt air is good for the lungs. And its got a great 360 degree view.

Florida has been known for a lot of Michiganders to retreat to after retirement. Although it also is near salt water, I'm not sure about other climate factors, as well as how easy it is to live.

So, I would suggest to look at major factors in your decision and try to cut them down to reach a better ideal situation.

Hope that helps,

I'd say that areas that are humid or have snow in winter tend to be very beautiful. In both cases, they are much less likely to be dusty.
Keep in mind that heat can wear someone out easily, while cold climate is physically much easier to deal with.

I live in the Bay Area. Near the ocean, with beautiful weather and also great access to healthcare! (Oakland, San Francisco, Silicon Valley).
