hello
i am a 15 year old high school student. I am required to do a project for school on genetic disorders. I found cystic fibrosis to be the best choice for me when completing this project. I need many questions answered if am am to complete this. Most of the questions cannot be found on the internet. Please help me.

1)What does it feel like to have CF? Is it painful? What do some of the treatments feel like?
2)Are there any possible ways for people to get help with medical bills and treatment if they cannot afford it?
3)Could i have a personal account of someone's life who has CF? a survivor story?

I would just like to say thank you to all of those who read this and replied. I must complete this by friday so responses by Wednesday at the latest. Thanks again. email me if you want to.

Sincerely,
Tyler Southerly - tsoutherly@hotmail.com

2 of those questions(1 and 3) are probably not easily found on the internet, the ones regarding firsthand accounts. I guess they can write in their report that some people with cf are a little bitchy, though.

i asked those questions because nowhere on the internet did it say how it felt. Information like that can only come with someone who has it. A requirement for this project was to write an additional one page account of a person who has the disorder. Sorry if i didnt state that or make it clear, but thanks anyway someone has sent me an email in reply to this that answers all my questions. Thanks again

I get irritated by "project kids" as much as the next guy. But Tyler came in asking specific questions about stuff that CANNOT easily be found on the internet (that is, personal accounts), and so that comment was completely uncalled for and unnecessary.

Hi Tyler. I thought your questions were reasonable I'm sorry I couldn't answer quicker, so hopefully this is in time.

1) This question is a bit hard to answer because CF can affect people so differently. I guess one of the most common "pains" would be difficulty breathing, although that isn't pain as such. Often we get stomach pains which can be pretty painful. Sometimes CFers can have arthritis, which can also hurt a lot. There are a lot of other "random" pains that can be associated with CF too, but everyone is different. I think most of the time it's more of a matter of discomfort than actual pain. As for treatments.. manual chest physiotherapy isn't done all that often these days but it can get painful after being "beaten" on the chest for a while But generally the treatments are painless or cause very little pain. Each treatment can have side effects (for example, nebulisers can make you feel weak, shaky or make your throat sore).
2) I can't really answer this, because I'm from Australia and our health care system is very different This depends on whether you can get disability or not.. hopefully someone from the US can answer this one better.
3) Once again, I'm not entirely sure how to answer.. I'm probably not the best to answer because I am really quite healthy and haven't really "triumphed" in any way! Hopefully someone else can answer this one too.

Sorry I couldn't answer more in depth.
