Okay, my husband and I are taking our son across a couple states to visit. This is our 1st time staying at a hotel with our son. I was hoping for some pointers, or items you could suggest for me to buy. I know to pack plenty of toys, and books and sit in the back of the car with him....and we have planned pleanty of stops to stretch his legs. We plan to travel until night, and have reservations in hotels along the way. Our son will sleep in his co-sleeper, with his own bedding from home. I plan on cleaning down tables, and counters in our hotel room with lysol wipes. I will also bring a comforter from home to put across our bed at the hotel. I made sure each suite we will be staying at has a fridge-for pulmozyme and milk. Also,I made sure their are microwaves in each hotel suite for boiling nebs, and bottles. We will do is CPT at night, and before we take off on in the mornings. Milk will be stored in Ice box, with pulmolzme.

Sorry, I want to make sure if I miss something....one of you can point out something wrong in my plan! These are my questions...

1. This is my first time cleaning nebs and cleaning bottles in a hotel room....Can you give me some pointers on how you clean your nebs on vacation..I have read you can boil them in microwaves, but have never done this before...(I had planned on washing them with the hotel water& antibacterial soap & then placing them in "Baby Water"....The kind that is already supppose to be sterile...and then boiling them in the microwave.....Can you please tell me what you use to boil them in, and for how long? Is a microwave glass bowl with water okay or is there something better I can buy....by Thursday....

2. Should I pack along water from home for washing Spacer, and is using prepackaged "Sterile Water" okay for a rinse..I was thinking of using Baby brand water??

3. Bottles, I think they sell baby bottle cleaner things for microwaves at babiesrus...again never used one before...Any favorite brands? Do they make ones that do the baby nipples too?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this post..I'm a crazy planner, and I just need some expert oppinions.

Mommy to Johnny 1 years old...w/cf...and his my 1st soooo I'm even more crazy...

sounds like you've got a great plan!
good idea with the fridge, sometimes if i end up having to pay for a fridge or something i'll just make sure the ice bucket stays full and keep my pulmozyme in there and leave a note for the cleaning staff to keep away!

i have to be honest, on roadtrips that are just a few days to a week or so i don't usually sterilize my nebs, just wash with dawn or something like that and hot water and air dry. probably not the best idea ever...anyway, when i'm at home for sterilizing my clinic told me that the Philips Avent iQ24 baby bottle sterilizer would work for my sterilizing my neb cups, so i use that. this particular model does bottles and nipples (and neb cups <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> ) and has a 6 hour sterile setting and a 24 hour setting (meaning it will keep the contents sterile for that long). its pretty small and plugs into the wall and would be easy to travel with. although the cord is kind of short so you might wnat to use and extention cord with it....
it cleans with heat and steam from sterile water-i just use whatever brand they ahve in the baby section from target....It doesn't require much water, maybe a 1/2 cup and then when the cleaning cycle is over you just pour it out.

i know that didn't answer your exact questions but i hope that was at least a little helpful!

You've already covered most of the things we've found useful so I'd say you are in good shape. We've made 11 hour road trips with our son twice a year since he was born 5 years ago. The one thing that contributed most to a smooth day was to relax and forget about getting anywhere quick - we stop whenever and wherever the boy wants and have marked every shopping mall, hotel, etc. along the route. We have even stopped at a Lowes and let him play on the lawn tractors awhile one time. We've taken a portable dvd but he's never been interested; books have been a bigger hit. For medical stuff we have about a dozen neb cups that we pack in ziplock bags so we can go a few days before needing to wash & a couple aerochambers that we use for an albuterol/flovent on the road if needed. Plenty of snacks and some gift-wrapped toys for surprises along the way are about the only thing I'd add.

Important Items to pack...

Surge Protector/Power Strip -- there are NEVER enough outlets at hotels. I use this to plug in the nebulizer, vest, our cooler.

Lysol wipes -- Wipe down the counters, desk, tables, tv remote, door knobs, sink, bath tub.... Crib if they provide one.

Vinyl table cloth. My MIL would always request extra sheets so DS could play on the floor or on top of the bedspread. I got a tablecloth Cheap that I use. Especially now that he's into legos.

I usually request a fridge but not a microwave. I also have a thermoelectric cooler that can be plugged into the cigarette lighter in the car, as well as an outlet at the hotel. I pack his fridge meds with one of those ice packs we got in the mail with DS' tobi. Keeps things cold FOREVER.

I use a deep fryer to boil nebs. I clean out the sink very well and bring along cloths with dish soap in them to wash out syrines and bottles. Water in the hotel usually gets VERY hot.

I've been buying 12 ounce bottles of whole milk at Target for weekend trips. And have one of those sports shake bottles to mix up his carnation instant breakfast, which I keep in the minifridge.

DH complains I pack too much, but I have a separate grocery tote bag that I keep DS' snacks in -- peanuts, chips, mini cans of spagettios, disposable bowels & glasses, fruit snacks, crackers, juice, mini cans of fruit...

Oh, and here's a nasty story about hotels. I always use the drinking glasses and coffee cups -- I still do after this story.. Friend of mine's girlfriend was telling me that the maids wash the coffee cups and drinking glasses in the bathroom sink. And she always stays in the same hotel for business trips and she put on her lipstick, drank her coffee. Three weeks later, she was making coffee, went to drink and it STILL had her lipstick stain on it. Bleah!
