Post transplant housing?

We live an hour away from the transplant center (Penn), and I was wondering if after transplant I would be able to return home or if I will need housing closer for the 12 weeks of rehab.

Any ideas?

It depends on your center. I was supposed to stay at my sisters who lives 30 minutes from the hospital but because she has a 4 year old they decided it would be better if I went home, which is 1.5-2hrs away. I have a pulmonary rehab facility at the hospital near my house so that was also a factor in me being able to go home. I would look into rehabs near your house and see if they would be willing to collaborate with your transplant docs.
Good luck.

I went to Cleveland Clinic for my transplant and if you live more than an hour away from the center, you have to stay in that area for 6-8 weeks. I live 6 hours away from Cleveland, so I had to stay in the area. We stayed in a hotel and we applied for housing assistance through the Boomer Esiason Foundation and were approved. So, the $1,500 bill that we racked up at the hotel was paid by BEF.

Also, if you do have to stay in the area, it's not always for the whole time that they normally tell you. I was told that I would definitely be in the area for 6-8 weeks, but I did so well after transplant, that I went home just over 4 weeks after the transplant.

Also, I proved to be pretty strong after transplant and I didn't go to any type rehab.
