ok so its finally going great for aidan as far as the potty training. hes at the point where hes wearing his big boy underwear all day(only at home) and going pee-pee all by himself. the pooping was going good. and he did it a few times by himself without me asking. i was so happy. usually if it doesnt happen during the day as you all know as soon as you put that pull up on him he goes. thats fun when your out those things are not made for our kids.

so now he wont go on the potty at all to poop and when hes gassy he wont go and sit. i just got done cleaning him up and ditching the underwear cause he pooped in them. i feel like its double hard for us over here cause he could have it come on real fast, or cut one out and gets more then just gas. any suggestions would be helpful thanks

With DS I tried using regular underwear and pull ups, but he just would poop in them. With regular underwear it'd fall out the side and pull ups were just like diapers to him.

His daycare director suggested using thick cotton training pants with plastic pants over the top of those. I bought a couple dozen pairs at walmart and spent the next couple of weeks doing extra laundry, but he eventually got the handle on being able to sense that he had to go and make it to the bathroom instead of RIGHT THEN AND THERE. Also didn't like the way it felt.

I thought he'd NEVER get trained, but after a couple weeks he was completely potty trained. He used to be afraid of his potty chair when he was really young.

Hi there,

I'm the CFer but I happen to be doing potty learning with my 17 month old daughter who decided she won't wear diapers. I've been feeding her a banana every day so the poop is more solid and easy to clean if you catch it right away. Since we had a bunch of bananas I've been eating them too and two small bananas a day helps things in that department.

My daughter does the same thing with pull up disposable diapers-if she knows she will get to wear one she will hold off on pooping until she has it on. It's the only time she will happily put one on! My solution to that was no more pull ups. After she poops in her trainers I turn the training pants inside out, spray with stain remover and rinse the poop off then throw in the peed clothes pail for washing later. More work but I think being able to say "poop in the potty, not in your underwear" has more impact than trying to tell her not to poop in a diaper.

As far as getting more than just gas...well that's just the way it is so having extra underpants and some flushable wipes on hand might make sense even after he's trained. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Good luck.

My son is now about 1 month into being trained - he did the pee thing for a long time, but couldn't conquer the poop.

I had him wear underwear all day. If he needed to poop, he was allowed to go into the bathroom, put on a pull up and poop - but ONLY in the bathroom...he couldn't just walk around the house to do it.

After about two weeks or so, I added another rule - and that was that he had to poop in the pull up, in the bathroom, and sitting on the potty.

Did that for about a week or so. He was still scared to poop in the potty, so I cut a hole in the bottom of the pull up (he didn't know this of course) I did this a couple times, and the poop dropped in the potty. After about a week or so of that, he wasn't quite so scared to poop on the potty.

The first time he did it without a pull up, he needed a little encouragement, but a new Ben 10 toy did the job, and the rest is history.

Hope this helps..Good luck!
