Hey,

Just wondering how often you are Rx'd prednisone? How the doc determines its time for prednisone? Is it used in conjuction with, before, or after abx. and what dosage/frequency?

I've just started it tonight and its rare they put me on it, but he said I sounded "awful" with wheezing today at my 3-week IV abx follow-up. My pfts even went DOWN after 3 weeks of meds. (they were going up at the second week and I sounded very clear and was breathing well, but now at the 3rd week I am sucking on O2 day and night cause I'm so SOB and my O2 sats are a mess). Very depressing. He put me on prednisone and stopped the IV abx. Just wondering your experiences with prednisone. Thanks!

My doctor is hesitant to put me on Prednisone because how it messes with my sugars, BUT if I need it....I need it.

She doesnt make the decision lightly & runs it past me to assure I am ok with it. I have only been on it 2 times in my life. Both times it worked like a charm.

Once was when I was quite sick & another time to assure my trip to a humid area (after a hospital admit) wasnt limited because of SOB.

The 2nd time I had less side affects, but I was healthier so maybe that is why.

My biggest problem EVER with Prednisone was the first time I was on it. I was peeing my pants at the drop of a hat. As soon as I felt I had to go, I went....I couldnt get to the bathroom.

It was not a fun time, but then went away THANKFULLY. I have had the sugar issues (as I said), the hyperness, the moodiness & only with the 2nd course did I get any fullness in the face.

I am wondering if doctors are using prednisone more often now.

I was never on it before last year because I dont think my doctor agreed with using it. The two times I was on it last year, it did wonders for me. I felt better within 24 hours! I did use it in conjunction with abx...it was a low dose. I cant remember specifics, but it was only over the course of four days, tapering down after the 2nd day.

It is also my understanding that it will help with allergies. Allergies can cause inflammation and obviously prednisone works to relieve the inflammation. Maybe your doctor thinks it is allergy related?
