Private Topics

There have been some people asking how the Private Topic feature works. Mockingbird graciously posted a tutorial, but here's what I learned from a trial thread I posted:
First you click on the Private Topics Category.
Then select New Topic
A screen will come up with KEYWORD___________ [search] at the top
A box labeled: Selected Users is below that to the left & a box labeled: Available Users is below that to the right.

Then you need to determine who you would like to be included in the thread & type their name in the keyword blank, then click Search.

You will then see their name appear in the Available Users box, you click on their name, hit the < key & it is then moved to the Selected Users box. You can also just put a single letter in the Keyword box and hit Search & everyone that has sign-on names with that letter should pop up in the Available Users box.
Example: Put the letter A in the Keyword box and eveyone from Aaron to Aztec should come up in the Available Users box. I then select which names I would like to include and then select another letter to search.

Let me tell ya right now, there are a bazillion user names out there, most of them I had never heard of! So after approx letter B, I just went off of memory & added names I could remember.

Then, after you've selected everyone, you create your topic & when you post it, from what I understand, the people on your list "get invited" via an email message to your thread and a link to the thread is provided in the email.

That's all I know so far and hopefully I didn't interpret too many details incorrectly. If I did, please feel free to let me know.

One question I had was...
I wonder if only the people "invited" can view the topic?

I can get to the point where I have a bunch of names to choose from but when I highlight a name and then press < to move the name from the left to the right under my name...nothing happens. In other words apparently I can only create a Private thread for myself <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hmmm...it worked for me. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you...What, you don't like to talk to yourself?? lol

I had a couple of questions too.
1. WHO do we ask for technical advice on Private Topics
2. How do those list we did (or not) sign up for (ie CF Sucks, Papa Don't Preach, etc) tie into the whole Private Topics category, or do they???

Someone, Anyone??
