Problem with Vest Foot Control

OK Guys.....I have my Vest from ABI since 11/99. I recently started having problems with the pedal control deflating during use. I pulled out my paperwork & did what I was suppose to in order for it to reinflate which only works for a minute. I started having the problem Wednesday so I havent called the company yet, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I am doing nothing different so maybee its just worn out>>>>Thanks for your input!

It inflates? Mine is circular, solid-rubber piece that I shove under the machine during treatments. But it is fickle and probably defective. My machine is the original model. I doubt they could even swap out the part at this point, so it's probably time for an entirely new unit. But I'm not sure I like the idea of an inflatable pedal. Would I be able to shove that under the machine?

Mine is circular, rubber & you can hardly tell it inflates until it doesnt inflate LOL. The inflation is what actually pushes on the button inside when you put pressure on the control. I am sure yours is the same, but dont realize it. You would have to hold it up to eye level both connected & disconnected to see the slight difference in "puffiness". If yours is like mine then putting that much weight on it is a no no according to my machine information. It should need more than a slight touch if working properly which is my problem.

Hey Melissa,

I am not real sure about the foot pedal... I have the newer version the 104 and to tell the truth I don't even use the pedal, I just turn the machine on and it goes. BUT very recently I broke two different parts on THumper ( the name of my vest hahah) anyway, I had to do was call the vest ppl, they sent me out the new parts right away.. They were super nice.. I know the vest has a life time gaurentee any thing breaks they replace it...

I would give them a call... I know from being in the hospital and using the older version of the vest .. the foot pedal is key......

Hope you are well

Ha! Now you've got me obsessed with this damned thing! I'm turning the machine on and off, I've got the pedal up to the light, and still I don't see or feel any change in puffiness. Or do I? I can't tell! Is this any way to spend the busiest shopping day of the year?

As for shoving the pedal under the machine, that's what they do at the hospital, so I've always done the same. It's probably why the thing doesn't work properly. God knows where the information package is. This place is filled with information packages! I haven't seen the vest one since three apartments ago, but I'll take your word for it and find something less massive to shove the pedal under. Maybe my foot would be a good place to start.

I had the same problem once recentrly and found a way to fix it. I also have the original one ( the rubber round thing) The end of the tubing where it connects to the back of the machine had a small crack in it which i couldnt even see( But from working on cars i know these hoses can get leaks that dont always show themselves.) I just cut about a 1/4 inch off of the end and connected it back and its been fine since. Pretty much the foot pad is just an air filled device connected to an air tube. If it is deflating it has a leak somewhere. The most logical place would be where there is an area that is always bent or bent a lot of the time. After years of this bending it eventually weakens and breaks. That bent area is usually right where the air tube comes out of the back of the machine. I hope you find the culprit, i know its an annoying problem....

My daughter goes through a foot pedal every year. We just call the company and they send out a new one (overnight). She has had her vest since 1999 and when I called the company last week to inquire about a new pedal they informed me that they may be exchanging her vest for the newer (smaller) version. We should hear something next week - I am excited because it will be so much easier to move from room to room. Her old model is so heavy and cumbersome to move around.

I actually read in the troubleshooter section of the manual about cutting the end of the tubing off & trying that. Havent done it yet nor have I called the company. I will try cutting it in a bit & see!

We have gone through several foot pedals as well. When they quit working, we call and the company sends one out, no questions asked. Same with the tubes that hook from the vest to the machine. They sometimes get holes in them and they always send out new ones. They are wonderful about it. The vest has a lifetime warrenty so they replace anything, even the machine itself as we had to have that replaced once too for one of my daughters.

We had the same problem with the old machine, Kait now has the newer model ( 104 )and we do not use a foot pedal. I would also think that the company would replace any part that is broken.
I would call the company ASAP

I too have the original model. I just slide the round rubber thingy under my butt when ready to use the vest. (doing it now, LOL) i find it stops every now and then so i just lift up and sit back down on it again. Maybe I should try looking at the tubing in the back of the machine to make sure it doesn't have a hole. Thanks for the idea!

My puppy chewed on my foot control about a year ago. I just called the day it happened and told them what happened and they sent a new one overnight. They usually stand behind their vests 100%. I'm sure if you call they will help you with whatever you need. My dad is a RN and works for the vest company. (If you need something and have any questions about it, just ask)

I "fudged" my treatment with the faulty control for awhile & finally broke down & called. The repreentative almost "yelled" at me for not contacting them sooner. I had it the next day & she specifically stated they are sending it next day to limit interuption of my treatmemt. I should have called sooner!

Some of you have mentioned that you put the foot control under your machine or sit on it ect. I just got my vest today and my foot control acts only as an on/off switch. Press once and in starts the vest, press it again and it will pause the session. When I used the vest for a trial I was doing the same thing, trying to hold it down util the trainer showed me how it works. Mine is a model 104. hope this helps

On my ABI model (sorry no model number known) the foot pedal must be compressed for it to operate. There is a seperate power button to actually turn the unit off/on. The vibration automatically stops after a certain amount of time (I think 10 minutes) even if the pedal is compressed as a safety measure &/or to remind us to cough. I personally dont do a lot of coughing while using the vest. Most of mine takes place shortly after unless I am extra congested!.

We have been through 3 since the machine came out years ago. The company is awesome to work with. I call and tell them and they send it the next day. How many of you guys have had success in getting two machines in your home. My children are doing and going in so many seperate ways (especially summer months) and we are in desperate need of a second machine. Has anyone had luck and if so how?
