Probotics VS Acidolphilis

I have really bad thrush in my mouth from all the antibiotics I am on... I am currently on diflucan, but I went to the health food store today and I saw two different types of treatment options one is called probotics, it has several different "good bacteria" in it and the other is called Ultimate Flora Critical Care it has 10 strains of the good bacteria in it but mostly acidolphilis...

They were both $35.00 a bottle, what kind do you guys use? I am not looking to stay on it long term, it just cost to much, but I am hoping it will help clear this infection

Thanks for any ideas.. I am eating lots of yogurt as well...

I take Garden of Life - Primal Defense (It's a probiotic that contains Acidophilus and many others)
another one I've heard others recommend on this site is PB8. Currently I am also taking New Chapter Sensitive Colon Support (which is also a probiotic) to help me with constipation (pregnancy related).

Get the yeast under control. Good bacteria being exterminated can lead to major problems such as C-Diff.

I am currently battling a yeast overgrowth issue; I don't have CF (my son does). What I learned when I decided to get rid of it naturally is that yeast overgrowth can mask as many things and causes a tremendous strain on the body. It can grow in more places than the digestive tract and vaginal area. People who take/have antibiotics, steriods, birth control pills and eat foods which contribute to yeast overgrowth are at the greatest risk.

Anyways, "Conquering Yeast Infections: A Natural Approach for Men and Women" by Colet Lahoz is excellent at explaining it. She has a 95% cure rate within her practice and after being on the program and using acupuncture for 6 weeks, I am feeling much better. Itis important to have a cleansing aspect to whatever you do since the yeast die-off creates a bit of a toxic situation for a time being (fatigue, headache, gas, ect) for the first couple weeks. Diet is important during this time so your body has a real chance as rebalaning the flora in the gut.

A web site that talks about this book and offers products and support is http://www.wholeapproach.com/ I also use the Primal Defense Brand but have also liked Triple Flora Vaginal and Urinary Support.

The average time it takes to heal and cleanse the body of Candida depends on taking a steriod and BCP. Since having children the recurrent vaginal and urinary thing has been the main issue...before that it was digestive but I never linked it to Candida. Staying on a daily probiotic after you clear it is beneficial, especially those with CF...our son w/CF and daughter w/out both take them.

Sorry this should be a blog or something.

Best wishes...sorry so long.

I like Jarrow Dolphilus, the makers of jarrow products. You can buy their products at Whole foods and probably other health food chains.

I would also buy Biotene Mouthwash. I love it and it prevents thrush. It does not say it on the bottle but I have noticed amazing results with their toothpaste and mouthwash.
I had thrush in the ICU and I asked my doctors to let me bring in Biotene and they said yes in two days, my problem was cleared up.
edited to add: You can buy Biotene at Wallmart, Target and walgreens

They are basically the same thing-acidophilus is like what you have in yogurt that helps with yeast/thrush. But taking a probiotic supplement gives you a higher dose and a variety of probiotics-acidophilus is just one probiotic. I have taken PB8, which you can get at all healthfood stores and some grocery stores too. Primal defense is really good-many of my family members are on that.

Like LouLou, I am also on Sensitive Colon Support-it is a much higher dose probiotic and stresses more on colon-b/c since we're prego, we're a little "backed up".

Diflucan will help with a yeast infection of course, but the downside is it kills good bacteria also. So I take a probiotic with it, to replenish good bacteria in my intestine.

One other thing Jenn. If you already have killed all the good bacteria in the body and have a yeast overgrowth then you might consider that you have a fungal infection.

Symptoms are:
* vaginitis (vaginal yeast infection)
* ear and sinus irritation
* gastrointestinal problems
* oral thrush
* intense itching
* canker sores
* food allergies
* jock itch
* ringworm
* bowel disorders
* athletes foot
* environmental sensitivities

Here's a product (Fungal Defense) that has been recommended to me when a step beyond Primal Defense is needed. Like Jody said though, remember to flush the system of the toxins.

Thanks for the replies.,,, I kind of caught a potential problem.. This morning I took my probotics and my acidolphilis and then about a half hour later I took my antibiotic.. I think that that was a bad idea.. Taking the antibiotic is going to kill the probotics and acidolphilis I took isn't it???

yikes..
