I think we are FINALLY getting somewhere...It ONLY took about 5 weeks, but we are getting somewhere...

N, who is 3.5 years old, is becoming much more adjusted. The doctor who initially evulated him as 'possibly ADHD + ADD" may have been wrong. For one thing, N is still too young to really be evulated for those diagnoses. Number 2, his hyperactivity was believed in part to be due to his chaotic environment at the time. He is suppose to start "Head Start" in the next 2 weeks to 'catch up' with other kids his age, although he isn't as 'behind' as his older brother. He will go to "Head Start" 3-4 mornings a week. I have all the paperwork done but need the physician exam yet. His state insurance was just converted and goes into effect November 15th so I have to wait a little bit longer...He is rarely biting, punching, or kicking now.

D is a little more challenging. He will be 5 in under a month and is still pretty HYPERACTIVE. A councelor has been out to our home 2 days per week for the past 2 and stated that the agency is still considering medication for him. He also MUST be reminded of the same rules over and over again like, "Don't hit or kick the dogs!" "Do not run through the house!", and so on...He will also be in "Head Start" 3-4 mornings per week which will be hard for him. He is 'behind' and can't seem to keep his attention on anything for any decent amount of time. D is FAR MORE fustrating than N, but I'm sure it's due to his diagnosis. I always remind myself that he probably can't help himself.

The first court hearing was Monday, November 3rd. Apparently, their father showed up at the court house but left BEFORE the hearing for the boys ever happened. Their Mom was there, but the judge and caseworkers thought she was "too compliant"...? They are suppose to remain in foster care until the next court hearing in May.

As far as my health is concerned, I'm doing 'alright' but could be better. Things are better, but my health took a hit the first 2 weeks of having them and still isn't back to normal yet. My FEV1 dropped from 64% to 57%, increased shortness of breath, and 100 - 101 degree fevers. I saw my CF doctor last Wednesday, and he said that I didn't need IV's yet, but he placed me on Prednisone and 1,500 mg of Cipro daily for the next 3 weeks. If that fails, then I need IVs. SURPRISINGLY, I only lost 2.5 pounds since running after 2 kids all day long.

So we'll see. Things are getting better each day. I thought just I'd update ya all!

Jenny,
I'm so glad to hear things have calmed down a bit. Hopefully your loving home environment will be a very positive thing for them - as it sounds like it has already done wonders. Take care of yourself <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
