My 10 year old nephew is newly diagnosed and has been through 2 months of TOBI, cleared his pseudomonas and now it is back. Any advice or suggestions on how to help prevent this- especially in school? Thanks

Pseudomonas is the most common bacteria among CFers. It is also found just about everywhere in our environment so avoiding it is nearly impossible.

The only thing really to do (without living in a bubble) is to take the ordinary precautions with handwashing etc. Compliance with treatments & if it doesnt interfere with lifestyle change too much avoid certain things like lakes, rivers, playing in the dirt etc.

I, personally, believe (this might be proven, but not sure on that) that once you culture it....you will culture it again even after clearing it for awhile.

I would rather live the way I want then to constantly worry about where I could catch it or worse yet....limit my living & STILL culture it!

Was the PA cleared by sputum culture or by bronch?

If it was by sputum culture, chances are the PA never really went away... you didn't just catch it in the culture.

I don't know about school, but since my daughter (almost two) cultured it for the first time a few months ago, I am more diligent at cleaning my bathroom. Specifically, I put Clorox in the sink and bathtub every night. I throw away any bottled water that we did not drink during the day and I don't have any indoor plants. I also avoid any spots with still water (we are in the city so it is not that difficult).

Hope that helps
