public aid question on creons

I would appreciate any help on this one. We are in the process of adopting a little girl with cf, we took "custody" about a month or so ago. Her creons and vitamins come from an out of state company and are suppose to come ups(according to previous foster parents). We called the clinic for more vitamins a little over a week ago, and still no package. This makes me a little nervous about the rest, thank goodness she has plenty of creons left. I know the foster parents have had a little trouble with the company. Anyway, my understanding was that this was the only way to get the creons and vitamins with public aid of which she has to remain on at least until the adoption is finalized. Has anyone had this kind of problem? I don't understand why I can't go to our local pharmacy. I took the bottle to them, and they said that they could get the same(NOT generic) kind. Please let me know any thoughts or any experiences. Thanks

The info you have been given is pretty inaccurate. Some pharmacies won't carry Creon because it is much more expensive than the generic forumla but I WARN YOU-don't even bother trying to give your little CFer the generic, it will cause a lot of problems. If I were you, I would call around or go into a few different pharmacies asking if they can special order the NAME BRAND creon for you, and then verify they take your insurance. There is no need to have to order it and have it mailed via UPS unless your insurance only does mail order Rx's. If you list your city and state of residence, another family that lives in that area will probably be able to assist you in findind a good pharmacy in your area.

How old is this little girl? THere is a program called Wee Care where the maker of Creon will supply you with free Creon (and vitamins) up to the second bday.

You may also want to check out the CF Services Pharmacy (link is on the cff.org page) to look for more info - they will at least have a price sheet. I think most places do not keep Creon in stock bc it is not commonly used but it can be mail ordered (Walmart, Walgreen's etc). I personally have only gotten it through CF Services though.

Congrats on the adoption!

She has been on Wee Care, but JUST turned 2 (weeks) when it was done. That might be the problem? The pharmacy(friends of mine) do not CARRY it but would order it for me. She promised she would never order generic. Thanks for the info. I am just glad that we are not in trouble of running out of her meds till at least 7weeks. Everything is SOOO messed up!!! Thank goodness I have a good relationship with the former fosterparents. They have had to mail and drive things (not all cf related) to me because they get it and not me(25-30min drive).
