Pulmozyme

I was reading another post on the board (one that I didn't necessarily take to heart), that said taking Pulmozyme will actually damage your lungs. I went on the internet and looked for anything to back the claim up, but found nothing. As a typical rule, I usually give some credence to the advice/concerns of someone with more seniority when it comes to CF, especially if they themselves have the disease. This person was claiming to be 54 years old and a CF patient. I realize that everyone has an opinion, and this could be just his.

In my opinion, I have noticed great improvement in Marissa with the use of Pulmozyme.

Anyone here ever heard of Pulmozyme use causing damage to the lung walls? I have heard other people say that they "take a break" from the Pulmozyme now and then to prevent the body from getting use to it and making it less effective. We have not been told to do that even as of yet.

Thanks for any input,
Terry

One more question to write down for the next clinic.

Some patients who are prone to hemoptysis have to be careful. Pulmozyme is like an inhaled enzyme of sorts. It eats at the mucous breaking it down so in a way it would seem logical that for some with problem areas in the lungs could have issues.

By no means would I say that its unsafe tho. Like so much with CF it does vary from person to person!
