Q for those who put pancreacarb thru

My daughter gags and vomits so the clinic docs considered having us use pancreacarb and push it through the g-tube. But they've only ever done that with patients who had
mic-keys, my daughter has the "one step button". I guess they think the enzymes will clog it up, since it is narrower in size.

So my question is, do you know what size your child'smic-key is? My daughter's is 18 french.

I hate this tube, btw. It pops open on its own, and you have to switch between 3 diff attachments to vent, bolus feed, or pump feed. How is that "one step"?

Is the one step a balloon button?? If so, maybe a visit to the surgeons can have you change it to the mic-key?

Our Mic-key is 14fr. I have one extension for bolus feeds and another for continuous feeds.

I have no trouble getting pancreacarb through the extension. I mix one tablespoon of appleasauce, the beads of the pancreacarb and a few drops of water to thin it out. Than I use the 30ml syringe and push it though the regular extension.

If yours is and 18 french, I don't see how its is smaller than ours. YOu should try the pancreacarb -- it could be a huge solution for you.

My daughter uses the Viokase powder mixed with a little water for her enzymes at night. Very easy.

Thanks Heather. I think the higher the french size, the thinner the tube. Hers is a button on the inside, not a balloon, but we go back for a follow up with the surgeon in the next month or so. At our last appt he had mentioned that when she got a little bigger, and it needed to be replaced, to do it under sedation and replace it with one that is a saline balloon. Maybe I can get them to use a mic-key as well. How do you vent that, btw?

Sharon, thanks for your reply as well. We currently use voikase during overnight feeds. Today they told us to use it with the bolus feeds during the day when she doesn't finish a bottle. They also are setting up another appt with OT to see if they can help with some of these texture issues, as well as some odd things she does while feeding/poor feeding. Hopefully that will help.
