We had a good CF Clinic today, however just like every CF clinic they would like more weight on him. I got the okay to try adding Coconut oil to his bottle.....He drinks 7 oz bottles......We also are going to start adding half and half too his whole milk....Any tips on coconut oil would be great.

Thanks,

I never used coconut oil, but I did add an ounce of cream to his bottles, as well as nestle's quik to his supper bottle.

We add Canola oil to my son's nighttime g-tube feeds for the added calories - 120 a Tbsp. I had suggested Benecalorie to our Nutritionist and she thought Canola oil would be much cheaper and basically the same thing. Is the coconut oil for calories or are there additional benefits?

Virgin Coconut oil is more easily digestible. From what I've seen at the store it is spendier. I did buy a small container at walmart and added some melted oil to DS' pancake batter this weekend.

I add olive oil to DS' casseroles, noodles, etc. His dietician mentioned using that or a nut oil instead of vegetable oil, but also felt canola was fine. I believe that certain oils are better and have anti-inflammatory properties... Nut oils don't have as great of a shelf life as canola or olive. Not sure about coconut oil.
