question about rectal prolapse

Anyone whose child had this or anyone who has...

Im just curious...well worried actually...

Does the prolapse happen a lot or is it something that ceases once you start getting treatments for the CF...??

Im soooo paranoid that it will happen to my daughter again. She is so traumatized from that whole ordeal & being in & out of the hospital for those 2 weeks & the IV's & all that.

Shoot, there was a thread on this, but I guess it was too long ago, 'cause I can't find it. if I remember right, it was another parent with the same type of thing.

my son has had prolapse problems for a while now. (he is 4 diagnosed at 7 months). if we dont get the enzymes just right he has prolapse's. it was very tramatic for him in the beginning but as time went on he got better. also with my son the first time he had a bowel movement on the potty was also the first time it happened. so potty training took a little bit longer because he associated the prolapse with the potty. if you would like to talk further my email is Melissa04267@msn.com.. i also have yahoo IM which is momtocfr@yahoo.com and aol.... Hi. I think I'm the mom that asked this question awhile back. I was very upset about my daughter's prolapses b/c they were very traumatic for everyone involved......especially her. This is what led to her diagnosis. Anyway, she was 2 1/2 when she was diagnosed and once she had the first prolapse she continued to have them with every BM. This caused us great concern but I'm very happy to say that once her enzymes became regulated her prolapses stopped. She hasn't had one in 13 months so I'm hoping the same will happen with your child. It took us some time to get her enzymes where they needed to be so she continued to have them for a couple of weeks after diagnosis but once they stopped they never came back.

Good luck and feel free to email me if you want to chat some more. amyplymale@earthlink.net

My late brother had those, twice, when he was a toddler. But I don't believe they were a problem by the time he was 6.

My daughter had a prolapse just after she turned one (which led to her diagnosis). She was in the hospital overnight bc she needed to be lightly sedated to keep her from pushing it back out after it had been reduced. She had another one a few days later but hasn't had one since then - 16 months now. I do worry about it happening again whenever I see a change in her BM's but I watch them closely, watch her diet/enzymes closely and so far so good. Hope your daughter is doing well now!

When she was very young (I think between 1 & 3 yrs), my daughter started having rectal prolapse fairly frequently. After having numerous problems, she had, as I recall, what was termed minor surgery. The surgery did not take long, did not seem to bother her emotionally, and most important, the prolapse never occurred again. She was diagnosed with CF shortly after her surgery. We lost our daughter at age 18, from lung complications/problems. The surgery was 45 years ago, so I'm sure all types of medications/treatments are now available that were not available then. Good luck to you and your family. Bill
