Question about RSV?

Hi there,

Well, we survived Christmas. It was a tough holiday, since we decided it was not best to visit my side of the family. Due to my sisters 3 kids being sick with what turned out to be bronchitis. Sadly, this was a reminder that my mother really doesn't get any of this. As my mother and I battled it out on the phone on X'mas eve...very sad. Well, fast forward to yesterday and I found out the my sisters youngest was admitted into the hospital for what they our thinking is RSV. I know that RSV is very dangerous to our little guy, or any baby. In fact he has had monthly snynagis shots again this year to help protect him from RSV. The hospital has now released my sisters baby, and now they are at home. Thank goodness! Well, that's my update. I'm sure now without a doubt that we made the right decision. I hope all of you had great holidays with your families. In general how long does RSV last? I assume it's like anything...different for everybody?

Thanks,

Sarah

I guess I'd be concerned as long as the child still had a productive cough. It's my understanding RSV involves a LOT of snot and teeny tiny infants have issues with being unable to clear it. All children eventually get exposed to it, but with time, building up immunity to colds and other viruses, it usually isn't as severe as a child gets older. Still not something I'd knowing expose my child to.

A coworker's grandson (non-cfer) had RSV as an infant and 4 years later still has issues (asthma) and wheezing in cold weather.

As for your mother -- Ugh. We've had similar issues with my MIL.

Sorry to hear about your nephew having RSV!

I am glad you did not go to Christmas and expose your child to the sick children. Sorry to hear your mom was not understanding. Has she changed her tune since your nephew was hospitalized?

Hugs,
Marla
