question about sinus involvement

Aidan is the king of horrific sinuses, 5th surgery this Friday at CHOP and with a PICC line now for it. It does sound like sinus issues and I would definitely ask for an antibiotic. Aidan started at age 1 with symptoms and they thought he was too young for sinus issues. A CT scan at 16 months showed horrific sinus disease and a PICC for one month followed by his 1st surgery.

That may not be the case for ALyssa but the mucus is so thick and it just collects in the small sinus cavities. An antibiotic is necessary for Aidan's to break up somewhat and we do rinses every single day. Good luck!

My 4 year old has very bad sinus disease as well. She like Megan's Aidan has had multiple sinus surgeries. She is scheduled for another in April. She has had a PICC line since January. We irrigate her nose three times each day with antibiotic wash. She usually complains that her face hurts and her eyes look sunken and usually have circles under them. She also starts coughing more.

The last two posts sound like Emily...alot. She is also 4 with what seems like it's becoming bad sinus disease.

I'll agree with the sunken eye look. In fact, Emily has a spot on the bridge of her nose that becomes bruised looking when the sinus issues flare. There was a NICU nurse who notices it when she was just a tiny little thing and told me to watch that spot, that it would be my best indicator that she was getting sick. The nurse was right. Spot appears and Em's sick 1 - 2 days later.

The green goo in the eye is reason to request antis, I think. For Emily, when the sinus are bad not much comes out the nose (even during her daily nasal rinse) but her eyes get "goopy", she gets "junk in her mouth" (all her words) and the cough goes through the roof, especially at night.

We've had one sinus surgery and one endo/culture, and I'm betting that we're going in for another sinus cleanout SOON. We made an unplanned trip to the ENT yesterday, because Bactrim, once again, didn't help.

Good luck to you and ALyssa. The sinus stuff is never ending for us lately, and I'm really pushing to get it figured out.

Hi Heather....

Just wanted to say hello. It's been awhile, but I'm lurking again. Still trying to figure my son out. What a freaking roller coaster ride! Ugh.
