amy, i am reading back on all the recent mucomyst and NAC threads and i wanted to clarify something with you. if i understand correctly, you were on the NAC from Whole Foods for 3 weeks before you noticed a difference; then when you got on the stuff from Europe, the Bio-whatever stuff, you noticed improvment in just 2 days?

this really makes me skepticle of the suppliments in the u.s. i always assumed that even though the stuff is not regulated, that there would be brands that you could trust...i guess maybe not.

Just because it was from Whole Foods doesn't mean it was quality. There are good brands in the states but not all are equal. I too wish they'd regulate nutraceuticals here in the US.

Hi Laura.

First let me say that supplements and vitamins aren't regulated in the US. They could have anything in them and say "Vitamin C" or "Zinc." Since they're not regulated, they can say whatever they want. And the amount of med can vary from pill to pill - so you might not be getting a consistent dose.

Secondly, I am skeptical of my own "feeling better" after a day of NAC from Europe. It might have just been a health fluctuation. I do still feel pretty good though. But I know for sure that the NAC I got from Europe is what it says it is - whereas of course my American NAC who knows!

I still am pretty skeptical that my feeling good wasn't necessarily NAC related. I don't know of any med that makes you feel better overnight. I really almost hesitated posting how I felt because I was so skeptical of the cause of my feeling good.

But you can get Canadian NAC that Ross himself (from Stanford) used in his NAC study. They say it's "European standard" but I have no idea if they can just say that and if it's verified by the gov't or if anyone can just say that. But it says something to me that Ross trusted the company enough to use it in his study. I would order that stuff before buying anything in the US though, that's for sure.
