Has anyone had or do you know anybody who has gone thru a lung transplant? Did it help to improve their life afterwards? please respond to cutter_botc@yahoo.com. My 18 yr old nephew has become a candidate for one ,but he is very scared at the prospect of it. My family members are hoping any info you can give will alleviate some of his concerns and we can let him know thatt this can be a new lease on life for him .

Thank you;

Bill

There are many people that have had tx although I am not one. It can give you a different lease on life. It is a long process & in many ways gives you other concerns such as possible rejection. Some people have chosen not to go thru with tx. Some people died shortly afterwards & some are still kicking & living it up years afterwards. Hopefully someone that is post tx will be on soon to give you more input that will help your nephew!

Bill,

I had a lung tx 8 years ago and my sister 4 years ago.

It is normal and expected to be scared, fearful, reluctant to put yourself through such surgery... not too many people would just do it for the fun of it.. I guess none would.

There are support groups, maybe even at the closest tx center to your nephew, and the pre and post tx folks share their feelings, expereinces and a great learning opportunity.

I was scared and did not want a tx right up to the time they rolled me into OR, and then they knocked me out.

I also have a support group, we have chat, email and also many resources, you are welcome to join, your nephew, family, friends.

I also wrote a book which has 265 stories of success with lung transplant, from people around the world. They wrote their story and submitted it and I got them published. If that is of interest to you, let me know.

Happy to help however I can
