Question with "funky throat" and bad breathe!

Just a quick kind of gross question. Do any of you have to constantly swallow "funk" in your throat (as I call it), and have this urge to start hacking and coughing to get that feeling out of your chest? And if so (like me), I know this is nasty: but with all of that "funk", I feel like I wake up with the worst breathe ever, and no matter how much water I drink- I'm always fighting this horrible stale sick taste in my mouth.
Does that ring any bells with anyone, or am I way off here? Also, has change in diet ever slightly helped the intensity of this for y'all?

Question with "funky throat

This sounds like it is coming from your sinuses.

They are probably draining & collecting in your throat which will give that urge to hack & even feel like a sore throat or a lump sitting there.

It also gives pretty nasty bad breath. I urge you to seek treatment or a consult by an ENT or at the very least an allergist if you dont already have confirmed sinus issues.

This problem is common even outside of CFers if that makes you feel better.

Another possible option is that its some type of reflux. Are you on any type of meds for that like Nexium etc?

Question with

^ Thanks for the tip with it being sinus related, because I did a CF search, and look what I found listed under common symptoms:

* Nasal congestion, due to chronic sinusitis and/or polyps
* Bad Breath (actually, foul-smelling breath), that no amount of teeth brushing or breath fresheners can get rid of, usually due to respiratory (lung and/or sinus) infections with certain bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but may also be due to improper digestion (Added Apr. 9, 2000)

Did anyone ever know or think about the bad breath? I'm glad I searched for the sinus thing, because maybe a dr. could give me something to help with that. I didn't even know where that funk was coming from!

Do you still have your tonsils? I don't have CF, but I had cryptic (chronically infected) tonsil. I'd hack up nasty white chunks on a regular basis. When I finally had a tonsilectomy 7 years ago, the ENT told me that the infection went deep, my tonsils were full of that nasty stuff.
