It depends. If it gets eradicated and you don't have it several successive cultures ("serveral" varies by clinic), you are off TOBI. My dd did 3 Tobi cycles when she first cultured it, the culture after the first cycle was clear and so were all the subsequent ones. Based on that our hospital assumed it was eradicated and we were taken off Tobi

DS has been on it since he was a couple months old. Originally we were told he had to have a couple clear cultures. Then we hit cold and flu season and he wanted him to remain on it. Then he cultured it again...

Seem to recall reading that it was something about less chance of resistance being on it for longer periods than on again off again...? Also studies regarding increased lung function and fewer hospital stays... But I couldn't find anything when I googled. Will have to ask the doctor next time. It's just part of the routine we've gotten accustomed to..

I thought Amy/Noexcuses might have posted something about this long ago.

I used to hope that we could get off TOBI but even though she's had clear cultures for over three years we are still on it and I've forgotten to question it anymore, if that makes sense. I've moved on to other things to obsess over, LOL!

So where is TIP (tobramycin inhalation powder) and why is it taking so long to get approved???

My 5 year old cultured for Pseudo on a random culture even though he had no symptoms. He was on oral Cipro for 14 days and Tobi for 28 days. We just heard today that he still cultured it on the follow up last week. We are now being admitted on Thursday for 3-5 days to get him on IV antibotics. Once his level is where it should be he will be able to come home and return to school with his PICC line. What comes next if he cultures it again after the 14 days of IV antibotics? We have a 11 year old also that has never cultured it, knock on wood. This is the first time either one of our kids will be admitted and we are a little nervous. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
